The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles basketball teams host the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers tonight inside the Summit Activities Center.

The Gazelles play at 6:00 with the Bucks to follow, coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 5:30 PM. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.

This week’s Class AA media poll was released yesterday afternoon and the Yankton Bucks are in the 4th spot. The current rankings read as follows:

  • 1. Sioux Falls Jefferson (16-0)
  • 2. Sioux Falls Lincoln (15-1)
  • 3. Mitchell (12-3)
  • 4. Yankton (10-4)
  • 5. Sioux Falls Roosevelt (10-6)

            The Mount Marty Lancers will face off with Doane on Wednesday night in a GPAC basketball double header. Wednesday night will be the season finale for the MMU men, and the penultimate game of the season for the women.

            The Lancer women will play first at 6:00 PM with the men to follow. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 on KYNT and KYNTV, Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

            The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team are (3-1) on the season following a 4-game series last weekend against Mount Mercy. The Lancers pitched two shutouts, threw a combined no-hitter, and earned head coach Josh Teichrow (Ty-Crow) the first three victories of his Lancer career.

The Lancers will return to the field on Friday in Waxahachie (Waak-suh-ha-chee), Texas for matchups with Tabor College and Southwestern Assemblies of God.

            The Yankton Gazelles wrestling team’s ESD conference meet that was planned for Thursday has been rescheduled.

The meet will now take place TONIGHT at 5:00 PM in Mitchell. The reason given for the change was that if the meet didn’t happen this evening, the results would not be counted towards seeding for the state tournament.

            The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at JoDeans in Yankton. Commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Corey Westra will be the featured guest speaker. The meeting will begin at 12:00 PM noon.

In USD softball news, Coyote outfielder Gabby Moser was named the first Summit League Softball Player of the Week for the 2023 season yesterday afternoon. Moser went 7-7, with a home run and 10 RBIs last weekend, as the Coyotes earned victories over Drake and UNI.

The semi-final rounds for the Nebraska High School Girls Basketball Sub-Districts were officially set yesterday evening, and multiple teams in the area are still in the hunt.

In Sub-District C2-5 top seed and host Crofton will face off with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. Hartington-Newcastle will also compete in the semi-finals this evening against the #2 seed Ponca.

In Sub-District C1-4, top seeded Hartington-Cedar Catholic will host Bloomfield in the semi-finals this evening.

In Sub-District D2-4, #2 seeded Wynot will meet Howells-Dodge. Humphrey St. Francis are the top seed and host of D2-4.

The winners of each Sub-District, plus the top four wildcard teams will advance to the District Finals on February 24th.

  • Avon defeated Gayville-Volin 59 to 44; Avon’s Courtney Sees scored her 1,000th career point
  • Bon Homme fell to Parkston 70 to 40

In Boys Basketball:

  • Bon Homme lost to Parkston 56 to 39
  • Avon topped Gayville-Volin 54 to 38
  • Crofton were edged out by Ponca 37 to 35
