LOCAL SPORTS 2-7-23

The Yankton Bucks basketball team were in Huron last night as they earned an 85-57 victory over the Tigers. Rugby Ryken earned a triple double in his performance, tallying 16 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds. The 16 assists set a new YHS school record, the same record he tied previously this season. The Bucks and Gazelles will both face off with Rapid City Stevens Friday night. Coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 7:00 PM, with tipoff at 7:30 with myself, Bryce Ladwig.

            The Mount Marty Lancers basketball teams will be in Sioux Center, Iowa tomorrow night for a double header against Dordt. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 PM on KYNT, the women tipoff at 6:00 with the men to follow. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

            Two-year Yankton Bucks football starter Gavin Swanson has officially made his commitment to continue his academic and football career at Mount Marty University. Swanson rushed for over 700 yards and three touchdowns in last year’s Bucks campaign.

            Four Yankton Gazelles qualified for the state gymnastics tournament during the ESD conference meet last weekend. Ava Koller, Mackenzie Steinbrecher, Allie Byrkeland, and Marissa Byrkeland will represent the Gazelles in Aberdeen on Saturday. The competition begins at 10:30 AM.

            The South Dakota Coyotes and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits basketball squads are set to meet in the South Dakota Showdown series on Saturday. The Coyote Women will host SDSU inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 1:00 PM, while the Jackrabbit men will host USD at Frost Arena at 6:00.

            The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at JoDeans in Yankton. Mount Marty track and field coach Dan Fitzsimons, and Yankton High School track and field coach Geoff Gross will be the featured speakers. The meeting begins at 12:00 PM.
