LOCAL SPORTS 1-26-23

The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles will hit the hardwood tonight for a split double header against Brandon Valley. The Gazelles will be on the road in Brandon for their matchup with the Lynx, which is set to begin at 7:00 PM. The Bucks will play Brandon Valley inside the Summit Activities Center in Yankton, with coverage provided on KYNT and KYNTV. Pregame is set to begin at 6:30 PM, and tip off at 7:00. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.

            The Mount Marty Lancers received a commitment from an athlete very close to home yesterday, as Yankton high school senior Rugby Ryken has committed to Mount Marty as a dual-sport athlete for football and basketball. On the field Ryken led his team from the quarterback position to the Class 11-AA semi-finals last fall, throwing for over 2600 yards and 26 touchdowns, while adding 14 more scores on the ground. Rugby is listed as a guard on the hardwood as he’s currently running the point for a Bucks squad ranked 5th in the Class AA polls. Ryken will be eligible to join both teams for the 2023-24 seasons.

            The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles wrestling teams will return to the mat tonight as they’re scheduled for a duel with the Pierre Governors at Pierre Riggs High School. Matches are set to begin at 4:00 PM.

            The Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics squad will travel to Hendricks, Minnesota tonight for a duel with Hendricks Public. Events are set to begin at 6:30 PM tonight at “The Barn” in Hendricks.

The Mount Marty Lancers indoor track and field teams will resume their season tomorrow with Day 1 of the Mount Marty Invitational & Multi-Event Competition. Tomorrow’s events will begin at 2:00 PM, and the action will continue on Saturday with day 2 of the events scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. Both days of the competition will be held in the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton.

The South Dakota Coyotes men’s and women’s basketball teams are set for a Summit League double header tonight against Western Illinois. The USD women will host Western Illinois inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 7:00 PM, while the Coyote men will travel to Macomb for a road meeting with the Leathernecks at 6:00.

            The South Dakota State Jackrabbits men’s and women’s basketball squads will both square off with the St. Thomas Tommies tonight in a split double header. The women will play inside Frost Arena in Brookings, while the men will battle in St. Paul, Minnesota. Both games are set to tip off at 7:00 PM tonight.
