LOCAL SPORTS 1-3-22

The Yankton Bucks basketball team has the night off tonight as their roadtrip to Huron has been postponed to the 6th of February due to inclement weather in the area. The (2-0) Bucks now look ahead to a Friday night home matchup against the (3-1) Mitchell Tigers.

            The (0-4) Yankton Gazelles have the night off as well as they also have a date with the (1-2) Mitchell Tigers set for this Friday night.

            Coverage for Friday night’s double header from the Summit Activities Center can be found on KYNT and KYNTV. Pre-game scheduled for 5:30 P.M as the Gazelles tip-off at 6:00 with the Bucks to follow.

            The Vermillion Tanagers boys and girls basketball squads traveled to Tea for a double-header yesterday afternoon as they took on the Tea Area Titans. The Tanagers and Titans would split the affair as the Vermillion girls took the opening game 62-34 over the Titans to improve to a (5-0) record on the season. The Tanager boys would fall in their matchup 54-22 to Tea Area as they now hold a (2-3) record.

Next up for the Tanagers, the girls travel to Ponca, Nebraska on Thursday night for a cross-state matchup, tip-off set for 7:30 PM,  while the boys will have to wait till Friday to take the court again as they will host the Parkston Trojans with an 8:00 PM tip-off expected in that contest.

The Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s basketball teams ended 2022 with a pair of New Year’s Eve losses to Dordt. Both squads have a chance to rebound tomorrow night as the Lancers host Concordia in a home double header.

The (4-11) Lancer Women start the action against a Concordia Bulldogs squad who are (7-6) on the season. The Mount Marty men will follow as they carry their (6-11) record into their matchup with a (10-5) Bulldogs squad that is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Poll.

Coverage for this Lancer’s double header will begin at 5:30 PM on KYNT and KYNTV as the women tip off at 6:00 PM with the men to follow.

The South Dakota Coyotes men’s and women’s basketball teams both hold (7-8) overall records as they both prepare to take on the Fightin’ Hawks of North Dakota on Thursday night in Summit League Action. The Men will travel to Grand Forks to take on a (6-9) North Dakota squad while the women will stay home as they face-off with the (9-4) Fightin’ Hawks.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits remain dormant for both men’s and women’s basketball as they prepare for their respective Thursday night matchups against North Dakota State. The (7-8) SDSU Men will make the trip up to Fargo on Thursday night while the (11-5) Jackrabbit women’s squad will look to protect their home floor and remain undefeated in conference play in their meeting with the Bison (Bizon).

This week’s Yankton QB Club scheduled for tomorrow, January 4th, has been canceled due to impending weather. The originally planned speaker was YHS boys basketball head coach Chris haynes. QB Club is now scheduled to resume next Wednesday, January 11th, with Mount Marty women’s basketball head coach Allan Bertram being the featured speaker.
