Yankton Bucks Football fell to Tea Area 38-28 Friday night in the Pioneer Days Homecoming Game in front of one of the largest crowds in recent Crane-Youngworth Field history. Yankton led at the half 21-20 but couldn’t slow down Tea’s potent running attack in the second half, surrendering 396 rushing yards in the game. Yankton’s Rugby Ryken went 20-27 in the air for 261 yards and three touchdowns, with Cody Oswald, Austin Gobel and Evan Serck accounting for those receiving scores. Serck’s touchdown led to a tie game with just over a minute remaining in the 3rd quarter. Shaylor Platt was tabbed as the lead rusher for the first time this season and ran for 45 yards and a touchdown score. Yankton now turns their attention to another road stretch spanning the next couple of weeks, beginning with a trip to Dana J Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings Friday. The Bucks are making their third straight road trip to Brookings and have been outscored 76-20 in the last two trips. The USD Coyotes fell to North Dakota State 34-17 at the DakotaDome Saturday afternoon and are now 1-3 on the season. The Yotes have time to regroup and prepare for the South Dakota Showdown with South Dakota State University on October 8th in Brookings.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits defeated Missouri State 28-14 in Springfield, Missouri Saturday afternoon and are now 3-1 on the season. The Jackrabbits now host Western Illinois Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Indianapolis Colts 20-17 Sunday and are now 2-1 on the season. The Chiefs now prepare to travel to the (2-1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday night. You can listen live on your home for Chiefs Football, KYNT. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, kickoff at 720pm.

Yankton Bucks Golf finished 7th in the ESD Conference Meet in Pierre Saturday afternoon, tallying a 317 (+29) score. Watertown won the team title, shooting 287 (-1). The top golfer of the meet was Watertown’s Jake Olson who shot a 65 (-7). Yankton was led by Dawson Vellek 74 (+2) who finished 13th. Also for Yankton, Easton Vellek 77 (+5), Miles Krajewski 83 (+11), Parker Riley 83 (+11), Evan Ness 83 (+11), Henry Homstad 84 (+12). Yankton now prepares for the Class AA State Tournament in Mitchell October 3rd and 4th.

Yankton Gazelles fell 5-0 and the Bucks tied Aberdeen Central 2-2 Saturday afternoon at Swisher Field in Aberdeen. The Gazelles are now 2-10-1 and are currently 15th in Class AA, the Bucks are now 6-4-3 and are now 9th in Class AA. Yankton will now conclude their regular season against Sioux Falls Roosevelt Tuesday at Crane Youngworth Field in a varsity double-header beginning with the Gazelles at 4pm. The Mount Marty football team defeated Briar Cliff University 41-19 on the road over the weekend to secure their first ever win in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Lancers ran the ball for 308 yards and threw for another 154. Mount Marty obtained 462 total yards and five touchdowns in the win. Now 2-2 overall, the Lancers will travel to Orange City, Iowa this weekend for a matchup with #4 Northwestern University.

The Lancer volleyball team traveled to Jamestown North Dakota on Saturday for a matchup with #4 Jamestown. The Jimmies swept the Lancers in 3 straight sets. Mount Marty is now 6-8 overall and will take on #14 Dordt University this Friday evening at 7:30 in the Cimpl Arena.

The Lancer soccer programs battled Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Saturday. The Mount Marty women lost in an 11-0 match. The Lancer women fall to 1-5-2 on the season. The Lancer men scored their lone goal of the day in the 82 minute to tie up the game at one goal apiece. Briar Cliff and Mount Marty tied in the matchup. The Lancers are now 5-1-2 overall. Both teams will travel to Northwestern College on Wednesday for a matchup starting at 5 p.m. with the women’s contest first.

The Lancer women’s golf program finish in second place at the NWU Invite over the weekend. Mount Marty was led by sophomore Kelsey Heath who tied for 6th and shot a 158 two-day total.

The Lancer men will be competing in the second day of the Central Plains Invitational today in Salina, Kansas.
