LOCAL SPORTS REPORT 4-26-22

  • Yesterday’s rescheduled Yankton Bucks Baseball game will take place tonight at Sioux Falls Washington beginning at 530pm. The Bucks most recently fell to Harrisburg 5-4, 2-1 this past Saturday and are 7-3 on the season.
  • Yankton Gazelles Golf continues their season this afternoon at the Sioux Falls Elmwood Golf Course vs Sioux Falls O’Gorman in a varsity dual. Tee-off is set for 1pm.
  • Yankton Bucks Tennis seeks a pair of victories today in a varsity triangular vs Lennox and Vermillion at the University of South Dakota Tennis Courts. First serve scheduled for 1pm.
  • South Dakota State women’s golf remains in third place after two rounds of the Summit League Championship. The Jackrabbits posted a 298 (+10) Monday, three shots better than Sunday’s round, to bring their total to 599 (+23). Denver leads the tournament with a 577 (+1) and Oral Roberts is in second at 594 (+18). Denver holds the top three spots on the leaderboard. Anna Zanusso is the only player under par with a 137 (-7) scorecard. Anna Cathrine Krekling (E) and Clara Gestsdottir (+2) are in second and third. The final round is set to begin this morning at 8 am. The Jackrabbits will tee off starting at 940 am.
  • The Coyotes moved up one spot in the team standings after round two at the Summit League Championships from Sand Creek Station Golf Course. South Dakota posted nearly the same number from Sunday with a 309-team total in day two. USD also has three individuals in the top 20 with Laerke Jensen leading the way by claiming the best score for the team on Monday. The third and final round of the Summit League Championships begins at 850 am today for the Coyotes.
  • The ninth annual Calling All Coyotes Auction held April 22 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center saw a crowd of more than 700 help raise more than $370,000 which helps The Howling Pack support the University of South Dakota student-athletes. The event serves as an evening of celebration dedicated to the achievements of USD student-athletes while recognizing a community that helps create opportunities for their success. The 10th annual Calling All Coyotes Auction is set for April 14, 2023.
  • After a split with Briar Cliff University on Saturday, the Mount Marty baseball team has hit the 30-win mark for the first time since 2015 as MMU holds a 30-13 record. The Lancers took game one on Saturday as Senior Tyler Priest pitched a shutout, 5-0. Briar Cliff took game two with a score of 6-2. Sunday’s games with Briar Cliff were postponed to Today at 3:30 p.m. The Lancers will finish the four-game series then with all the coverage on KYNT and KYNTV. Pregame begins at 3.
  • The Lancer softball team pulled in a 3-1 weekend against Midland University and Concordia. On Friday, Mount Marty split with Midland, a team receiving votes in the top 25, with a 5-4 game one win, and a 10-3 game two loss. On Saturday, the Lancers swept Concordia with scores of 7-6 and 10-7. After the 3-win weekend, and up three games over third place, MMU can clinch at least the second seed in the GPAC tournament this Thursday with a doubleheader at Jamestown University. Games start at 11 a.m. in Jamestown North Dakota.
  • Mount Marty University has announced that head men’s soccer coach Carlos Saenz has resigned from the program, and assistant coach Oliver Tieleman, who has been with Mount Marty for the last three years, will be promoted as the newest head coach of the Lancers. The change comes one year removed from the first playoff berth in program history. Saenz retires as the all-time wins leader at Mount Marty.
  • Round four of the GPAC Men’s Golf Championship was pulled from the course on Saturday due to a high wind warning in Vermillion, South Dakota. Due to the wind, the GPAC Men’s Golf Championship will finish as a 54-hole final for the year. Mount Marty placed in last in the event and will finish their season in 11th in the GPAC. The GPAC women’s golf championship will continue today in Norfolk Nebraska at the Norfolk Country Club.
