LOCAL SPORTS REPORT 3-23-22

  • The gametime for Saturday’s Sweet 16 matchup between the South Dakota Coyote Women and the Michigan Wolverines has been set. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm at Intrust Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Tickets are available through the Coyote Ticket Office.
  • In western South Dakota, a Cinderella story is unfolding in the Division II Men’s Bracket. Black Hills State men’s basketball toppled the undefeated No. 1 Nova Southeastern, 77-67 yesterday afternoon to advance to the Final Four. The Yellow Jackets (26-7, 17-4 in conference) handed the Sharks their first loss, out-rebounding them with a season-high 55 rebounds and boasting a 95.5 free throw percentage. The Yellow Jackets advance to the Final Four to face defending national champion, No. 5 Northwest Missouri State on Thursday at 2 pm Mountain Time.
  • South Dakota completed the final round of action at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate tournament. With weather shortening the first day, players wrapped up their second round yesterday to conclude the 36-hole tournament. The Coyotes shot a 9-over par 293 in the second round for 602 total team score and a 16th place finish. Junior Max Schmidtke paced the team with a top 20 finish. South Dakota will get nearly three weeks off from competition before its next tournament at the Stampede at the Creek. The two-day event in Omaha, Nebraska, starts on April 11.
  • The 34th Annual 3-Class Shootout basketball All-Star game will be held on Saturday, March 26th at the McCook Central Auditorium in Salem.  All three classes in both boys and girls will be represented by many of the top seniors in South Dakota, including Yankton Gazelle, senior Ellie Karolevitz.

  • The South Dakota Coaches Association have identified its selections for the 2022 Girls Basketball All-State Basketball Team. The selections will be released to the public and right here on KYNT Friday morning.
