The Yankton County Commission gathered this morning to consider potential updates to their strategic plan. One of the areas commissioners agreed to concentrate more resources is encouraging more housing in the county.
Commissioner Don Kettering says limitations of land and labor and the increase in building costs combined with an influx of new residents is causing a housing crush.
Commissioner Dan Klimisch says it’s expected that massive recovery funds will likely be available to tackle housing issues, and being ready with plans may be essential to taking advantage of those monies. Kettering says developing strategies to assist in new housing development and reviewing planning and zoning rules to make it easier to obtain property would be worthwhile areas to analyze in 2022.
