Local Sports Report 1-5-22

  • It may have been chilly outside of the Summit Activities Center last night, but the Bucks returned from the winter break in fiery fashion, downing Huron 70-49. This improves the Bucks, now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in ESD Conference action, relied on excellent ball movement and clutch shooting to secure their first victory in 2022. Coach Chris Haynes was pleased with the team effort. The Bucks were led in scoring by Senior Jaden Kral, notching 23 points. Two other Bucks recorded double digit scores, junior Cody Oswald notched 13, and junior Rugby Ryken tallied 10. All eyes and ears around the state will be on Yankton’s next matchup as the Bucks travel to rival and ESD opponent, Mitchell. Mitchell, 4-1, lost their first game of the season last night vs Harrisburg, and are also looking to avenge a state tournament loss to the Bucks a season ago. The (1-3) Gazelles also look to come out of the winter break with a victory, they are the front end of the varsity double-header. You can listen live on all KYNT audio platforms as well as watch on KYNTV with Bryce Ladwig. Pregame set for 530pm/tipoff at 6.
  • Yankton varsity wrestling fell short twice in their triangular in Mitchell last night, falling to host Mitchell 69-9, and Harrisburg 79-0. Bucks and Gazelles wrestling continues this Saturday with the Bucks traveling to Brandon Valley for a 9am invitational, and the Gazelles traveling to Madison for a 10am invite.
