LOCAL SPORTS REPORT 1-3-22

  • The Yankton Bucks have played a varsity basketball game during the winter break, but are prepared for the gauntlet ahead of them in the 2022 portion of their schedule. The Bucks (3-1) are third in the AA standings, and are 1-0 in ESD Conference play. They look to make that 2-0 however as the (1-3) Huron Tigers come to the Summit Center tomorrow night for a varsity clash.   • The Yankton Wrestling squad looks to shake off the winter break rust and roll out the mats for a varsity triangular with host Mitchell as well as Harrisburg. Start time is set for 5pm.
  • South Dakota Women’s Basketball fifth-year senior Chloe Lamb dropped 27 points in the Coyotes’ 65-38 win over North Dakota State on Saturday afternoon inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. South Dakota (11-4, 4-0 Summit) tallied its ninth-straight win and moved to 3-0 in games played on New Year’s Day. South Dakota returns to the court at 1 pm this Saturday to host South Dakota State inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
  • South Dakota State overcame a cold first half to roll past North Dakota 72-54 Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena and move to 4-0 in the Summit League. The Jackrabbits shot 54 percent from the field in the second half and led by as many as 25 points in the win.
  • Mount Marty Lancer basketball bought in the new year with a Saturday double-header vs Dordt University. The Lancer women played first and got off to a slow start. Dordt took an early 11-0 lead and never looked back. The Lancers fell 72-48 to begin the new year bringing their overall record to 2-14.
  • The Lancer men battled Dordt next in a close matchup. There were three lead changed in the first 11 minutes of play. But Dordt pulled ahead for a 41-32 halftime lead. In the second half, the Lancers brought the score within four points, but were never able to retake the lead. The Lancers fell at home 83-73 bringing their overall record to 4-14.
  • Both teams are back in action on Wednesday evening with two games against Concordia University. The Lancers just played Concordia back on December 8th with the Bulldogs taking both games. The action will start at 5:30 p.m. with the pregame show on KYNT and KYNTV. Tip of the women’s contest is at 6 p.m. with the men’s game immediately following.
