Local Sports Report 12-22-21

The Yankton Bucks blocked any hopes of an Aberdeen comeback entering the 2nd quarter of action last night at the Summit Activities Center, as the Bucks secured their first ESD Conference victory and second overall victory on the season over Aberdeen Central 74-43. The Bucks shot their way to a victory, going 10-17 from beyond the arc. It was Jaden Kral and Rugby Ryken who led the way offensively for the Bucks. Kral scored 19 points, while Rugby tallied 8 assists and 17 points, some of which were in grand fashion.

The Bucks (2-1) now turn their focus to Campbell County HS out of Gillette, one of the top ranked teams in Wyoming, as the two will square off December 28th at the Mitchell Corn Palace as part of the annual Hoop City Classic.

  • The Gazelles basketball squad traveled to Aberdeen yesterday, and returned with their first victory of the season, defeating the Golden Eagles 40-37. The Gazelles (1-3) were led in scoring by Ellie Karolevitz and Jordynn Salvatori who tallied 16 and 15 points respectively. The Gazelles are off until January 7th, where they are the front end of a Gazelles/Bucks Doubleheader in Mitchell beginning at 6pm.
  • South Dakota Women’s Basketball travels to Kansas City for a Summit League game at 2 pm this afternoon inside the Swinney Center in Kansas City, Missouri. A win for the Coyotes would send South Dakota (8-4, 1-0) into the Christmas holiday on a seven-game winning streak. The Coyotes are wrapping up a three-game stretch of road games.
  • South Dakota Men’s Basketball stays home at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center and hosts Kansas City (5-6, 0-1) in Summit League play today at 7pm. The Roos lost at South Dakota State 89-57 Monday in their Summit League opener.
  • South Dakota State Women’s Basketball travels to Oral Roberts today for Summit League action. South Dakota State is 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League after an 85-78 win at Kansas City Monday night. Monday’s game was the first true road win of the year and first time collecting consecutive wins. Tipoff is set for 5pm.
  • South Dakota State Men’s Basketball will host Oral Roberts tonight in Frost Arena with the game scheduled to tip at 7 pm. The Jackrabbits are coming off a dominant 89-57 victory over Kansas City Monday night in Frost Arena.
