Morning Sports Report 12-1-21

  • Yankton scored a 133.25 to finish second in a season-opening gymnastics triangular last night in Yankton. The event was held at the River City Gymnastics facility, located in the Yankton Mall. Defending state champion Mitchell won the event with a score of 145.6. Parkston-Ethan-Hanson finished at 101.9.
  • The Yankton High School Wrestling Program rolls out the mats for their first regular season competition tomorrow night when they host a triangular with Beresford and Watertown in the Summit Center. First match begins at 5pm.
  • South Dakota State men’s basketball defended home court last night in a 99-90 victory, holding off a late charge from Prairie View A&M to remain undefeated at Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits (7-2) shot 48% percent from the field and buried 13 of 29 from deep.
  • Five South Dakota Coyotes were voted to the 2021 All-Missouri Valley Football Conference Team as selected by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media. Senior linebacker Jack Cochrane and junior long snapper Dalton Godfrey are first-team selections. Junior left tackle Alex Jensen, senior safety Elijah Reed and senior punter Brady Schutt are second-team selections. It is the third time in five years USD has had at least five all-MVFC honorees.
  • South Dakota freshmen Nate Thomas, Nick Gaes and Josiah Ganues have been selected to the 2021 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team as voted on by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media. It is the third time South Dakota has placed at least three on the team. For South Dakota State, quarterback Chris Oladokun was named Tuesday to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team. He was the lone Jackrabbit representative on the 24-player squad.
  • Today the Mount Marty Lancers are back in action at the Cimpl Arena. At 6pm, the Lancer women will face Midland University. The Lancers enter the contest 0-7 looking to pick up their first win. Directly following that game, the men’s basketball team will face Midland as well. The Lancers are currently 3-9 and have dropped their last 8 in a row.
