MORNING SPORTS REPORT 11-23-21

  • South Dakota men’s basketball (3-1) continues a three-game home stand today as they host NAIA opponent Presentation College (7-5) at 7pm in the SCSC.
  • South Dakota State linebacker Adam Bock was named Monday as one of 25 finalists for the 2021 Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented annually to the top defensive player in the FCS. Bock has registered a team-best 100 tackles (55 solo) with nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Bock and Western Illinois safety Darius Joiner are the lone finalists from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Also for South Dakota State, running back Pierre Strong, Jr., is one of 25 finalists for the 2021 Stats Perform Walter Payton Award, which is presented to the top offensive player in the FCS. A 50-member national media panel will select the winners, who will be announced on January 7th.
  • Coach Matt Entz of NDSU and Bobby Petrino of Missouri State represent the Confernece on the Eddie Robinson Award final ballot, which is awarded to the Coach of the Year in the FCS. Entz led the Bison to their second outright Missouri Valley Football Conference championship in three seasons as head coach with a 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in the conference. Bobby Petrino is in his second season as Missouri State’s head football coach after joining the Bears program on January 16, 2020. He is currently 132-64  in his 16th season as a head coach and is 13-8 at Missouri State.
  • The Norfolk-Catholic Knights Football Team looks to bring home the Class C2 Nebraska Football State Championship Trophy as they square off against Archbishop Bergan at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska this afternoon. Kickoff is set for 245pm.
  • It’s a new week for Lancer athletics with two basketball games in the next two days. First, the men’s basketball team will play tonight against Dakota Weslyan University. The Lancers have lost their last five games and look to end that streak tonight in the Cimpl Arena. Pregame will start at 6:30pm with the tip at 7. All coverage on KYNT and KYNTV. Then tomorrow, the women’s basketball team will travel up to Aberdeen to face Presentation college in a non-conference matchup. The Lancer women are 0-6 on the season.
