MORNING SPORTS REPORT 11-3-21

  • Yankton swept Brookings in three straight sets in the final home Gazelles varsity volleyball matchup of the season last night (25-20, 25-21, 25-22). Chloe McDermott and Jordynn Salvatori each had eight kills in the matchup, while Camille McDermott set the table with 19 total assists. Yankton, now (13-13), travel to (10-14) Watertown Thursday evening for their regular season finale. First serve set for 7pm.
  • Bucks football is gearing up this week for a tough Class 11AA Semi-final matchup at #1 Tea Area Friday night. You can catch the action live on KYNT and KYNTV with the voice of the Bucks, Bryce Ladwig, pregame 630/kickoff at 7.
  • The second round of the South Dakota High School Class A & B Regional Volleyball playoffs took place last night. In the Class B Region 5 Bracket, #1 Gayville-Volin defeated #8 Centerville in three sets, #4 Scotland fell to #5 Alcester-Hudson 3-0, #2 Freeman defeated #7 Viborg-Hurley 3-1, and #3 Irene-Wakonda bested #6 Menno 3-1. In the Class A Region 5 Bracket, #5 Bon Homme fell to #4 Parkston 3-1, #2 Wagner swept #7 Hanson 3-0, and #3 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated #6 Andes Central/Dakota Christian 3-0. All teams advance to the regions Sodak16 qualifier round this coming Thursday.
  • The South Dakota Coyotes women’s golf program capped off the fall season with a second-place finish at the Grandover Fall Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro at the Grandover Women’s East Golf Course. The Coyotes finished with a total score of 914 which beat out the third place finisher by seven strokes. The Yotes had two golfers place in the top 10 in senior Laerke Jensen who placed fifth and sophomore Danica Badura who placed ninth. 

The Mount Marty Lancers men’s basketball team held Martin Luther College to 28 points in the second half en route to an 81-67 victory on the road last night. This victory gives the Lancers a 3-1 overall record in the young season. Elijah Pappas and Kade Sterns combined for 9 threes on the night. Next up, the Lancer men’s and women’s basketball programs will compete in the NAIA Classic tournament this weekend at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Lancer men’s soccer program has finally reached the postseason and will battle Northwestern tonight in the opening round of the GPAC tournament in Orange City, Iowa. The match will begin at 7pm. The Lancers finished the regular season with a 6-8-1 overall record, with a 4-7 mark in conference.

The Mount Marty Volleyball team ended their season last night with a 3-0 loss to the #9 ranked College of Saint Mary. This marks the end of Belen Albertos’ first season as the head coach of the Lancers. In her first year, she led the Lancers to an 8-19 record with two conference victories. These were the programs first two conference victories since the 2017 season.
