Yankton Competes in State Tournaments

  • Yankton Competitive Cheer & Dance concluded their respective seasons Saturday after competing in the Class AA State Tournament held in Brandon Valley. Yankton Cheer finished 18th out of 18 with a final score of 166.50, while the State Championship went to O’Gorman with a final score of 283.5. Yankton Dance finished 4th out of 19 teams with a final 284.75 score, while tournament host Brandon Valley finished with top honors, earning a 298 final tally. Yankton’s Competitive Cheer team graduates six seniors, while the Dance team graduates three. In the Class A State Tournament, Dakota Valley took the Dance title, and Sioux Valley took the Cheer Title.
  • Yankton Cross Country competed in the Class AA State Championships in Sioux Falls this past Saturday, with the Gazelles finishing 9th with a 271 final team score, and the Bucks finishing 10th with a 296 final team score. Rapid City Stevens took the boys title with a 71 final, and O’Gorman took the girls title with a 52. Individually, Rapid City Stevens’ Simeon Bimbaum won the boys state title after running a 15:48.64, and O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie wrapped up her third consecutive state title after notching a 17:31.28 final time. Leading the Gazelles was Thea Chance (19:44.58), and leading the Bucks was Zach Fedde (16:28.61). The State Title was held at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
