LOCAL SPORTS WRAP 9-28-21

  • The first round of the 2021-22 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Championships is complete from Indian Creek in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Golfers will play the second round today at The Bluffs in Vermillion, South Dakota. Morningside, the defending GPAC Champion, is the team leader after round one with a 278 (-10), while Midland is second with a 290 (+2) and Northwestern is third with a 297 (+9). Concordia and Briar Cliff round out the top five. Mount Marty rounds out the bottom of the standings with a 339 (+51). Jackson Faber leads Mount Marty individually, posting a first round score of 77 (+5).

 

  • Today marks the first day of competition for the Hyundai Archery World Cup Finals. Coming off the heels of the World Archery Championships which wrapped up in Yankton on Sunady, the World Cup Finals is another top tier competition in the sport, and is highly coveted in the archery community.

 

  • Lancers Volleyball (6-11) travel to another GPAC opponent tomorrow as they take on (15-4) Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. First serve is set for 730pm.

 

  • Having had to forfeit their last matchup due to low numbers and injuries, the Lancer women’s soccer team, with the men’s team, host Northwestern in a GPAC soccer double-header tomorrow. The women (1-7) begin at 4pm, with the men (3-3-1) following.

 

  • South Dakota State right tackle Garret Greenfield was honored Monday as Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week after helping lead the Jackrabbits to a shutout victory over Indiana State to kick off league play. South Dakota State, ranked second in the Stats Perform media poll and third by the Football Championship Subdivision coaches, hosts Dixie State in the 54th Beef Bowl Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

 

  • Today’s guest speaker at the Yankton QB Club is GPAC’s Northwestern University Football Head Coach Matt McCartnay, buffet is optional and speaking begins at noon.
