Local Sports Wrap 9-24-21

  • It’s PIONEER DAYS, the Bucks of Fall are looking for that coveted homecoming football victory tonight as the 4-time defending 11AA State Champion Pierre comes to Crane-Youngworth Field, a little over 10 months removed from their last matchup when Pierre ended the Bucks playoff run with a 21-12 victory en-route to an eventual 4th consecutive state title. The lights will be bright, the crowd will be loud and you can be a part of the action by tuning in LIVE on all of the KYNT audio platforms and KYNTV platforms with color analyst Jacob Wuertz and the voice of Bucks football, Bryce Ladwig. Pregame begins at 630/kickoff at 7. KYNT is your home-team for Bucks football!

 

  • Yankton Cross Country played host to Gayville-Volin, Mitchell, Norfolk, Pierce, Sioux City Bishop Heelan, and Vermillion yesterday for a varsity invitational at Fox Run Golf Course. In girls varsity, Vermillion’s Taeli Barta took the top spot with a final time of 19:55.66. The top runner for the Gazelles was Thea Chance who posted a 20:12.24 final time. In boys varsity, Norfolk’s Isaac Ochoa took top honors securing a 15:58.44 time. The top runner for the Bucks was Zach Fedde, notching a final time of 16:51.10. Yankton Cross Country now travels to Sioux City and the Covington Links Golf Course on Thursday.

 

  • Gazelles tennis traveled north to Harrisburg yesterday for a varsity triangular, and their final regular season competition vs the host Tigers and Sioux Falls Washington. The Gazelles took a rare loss this season, falling short to Harrisburg 6-3, but sweeping SF Washington 9-0. The Gazelles (20-5) now prepare for the ESD Meet in Huron this Tuesday, scheduled to begin at 8am.

 

  • The Lancers (0-3) Football program finally returns home to Crane-Youngworth Field tomorrow as they host GPAC opponent Briar Cliff University. You can tune in live to the action on all KYNT audio and KYNTV platforms with Tehl Tanner and Steve Thum, pregame begins at noon, kickoff at 1pm.

 

  • The Lancers Volleyball squad (6-10) travel to #1 nationally ranked Midland University tomorrow for another Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup. First serve is set for 3pm.

 

  • The turf at Crane-Youngworth will continue to be tested throughout the weekend, with 3 football games and four soccer games all being played by Monday morning. Two of those four soccer games are the 4-5-2 Gazelles, and the 9-1-1 Bucks soccer teams, who are gearing up to host ESD rival Aberdeen tomorrow following the Lancers football game. The Gazelles will begin the double-header at 5pm, and the Bucks immediately follow. The action can be found live on KYNT and KYNTV platforms.
