Local Sports Wrap 9-21-21

  • The South Dakota High School Football Media Polls were released yesterday, Tea Area and Pierre remain in the #1 and #2 spots this week in the Class AA poll. Brookings moved up from #5 to the #3 spot. Aberdeen Central fell from #3 to #4, and Yankton, who was #4 last week, fell to #5 despite a hard fought 38-35 loss vs 11AAA SF Jefferson. Another local area team, Gayville-Volin continues their dominance on the field and in the polls, remaining in the #1 spot of Class 9B.

 

  • The Gazelles Tennis squad (17-4) hosted Brandon and Madison yesterday in the final home event of the season. The Gazelles swept both the Lynx and Bulldogs in quick fashion, posting 9-0 scores in both matches. The Gazelles now travel to Harrisburg on Thursday for a dual with the host Tigers and Sioux Falls Washington Warriors. First serve set for 11am.

 

  • The Bucks Golf team travels to a course today they haven’t played in years, the Watertown Municipal Cattail Golf Course. The course and the Arrows are hosting an invitational teeing off at 10am. The course will host the ESD meet this Saturday as well.

 

  • Each coming off different results in their last matchups this past Thursday, both the Gazelles and Bucks soccer squads look to secure a coveted ESD victory over Pierre today in the state capitol. The Gazelles, coming off a 7-1 loss, begin varsity play at 4pm. The Bucks, coming off a 10-0 victory, immediately follow. The Gazelles and Bucks next home match is this Saturday at 5 and 7pm.

 

  • Gazelles Volleyball travels north in I-29 to take on (9-2) Sioux Falls Lincoln tonight, first serve set for 7pm. The Gazelles are coming off their lone ESD victory of the season thus far on the 14th, and are (4-8) on the season.
  • The Lancers Volleyball squad prepares to travel to Sioux City tonight for a GPAC volleyball matchup vs (8-10) Morningside, first serve set for 730pm. The Lancers are (6-8) overall this season, and (0-5) in GPAC play.

 

  • The Lancers women golf team competes again today in the College of Saint Mary Invite. This meet will take place at the Tiburon Golf Course in Omaha, NE.

 

  • South Dakota fifth-year junior Alex Jensen has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s win at Cal Poly. It is the second such honor for Jensen, who hails from Plymouth, Minnesota.
