Yankton Post 12 split a Class A double-header last night versus the #3 team in the Class A standings, Sioux Falls West. Yankton upended Sioux Falls 2-1 in game one, but fell short 12-1 in game two. The first game was nothing short of a spectacular pitching duel, with each pitcher throwing no-hitters into the 5th inning and pitching complete games. Sioux Falls starter Charlie Jensen tallied 11 strikeouts, allowing just two hits and two runs. One of those runs came off the bat of Yankton’s Rugby Ryken in the bottom of the 6th.
Yankton pitcher Drew Ryken gave up a game tying home run in the top of the 7th, but tallied 5 strikeouts while only allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run in the game. Yankton secured its game one victory in the bottom of the 7th thanks to a wild pitch that scored a run.
Yankton didn’t have repeated success in game two, allowing 9 runs in the 4th inning en route to a 12-1 loss. Yankton, now 12-18 on the season, travels north to Renner for a Class A double-header Tuesday.
