The Hartington Cedar Catholic boys basketball squad scored the final 11 points yesterday and beat fourth-seed Freeman 40-37 in the opening round of the Class C-2 state tournament in Lincoln. Senior Myles Thoene scored ten of his game-high 12 points in the second half to lead the Trojans in the comeback victory. Hartington Cedar Catholic will now face top-seed Grand Island Central Catholic at 6:15 tonight in a semifinal game at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Last night in the Nebraska Class D-2 state boys basketball tournament opening round, third-seed Humphrey St. Francis used a big third quarter to eliminate Wynot 49-41. Junior Charlie Schroeder led the Blue Devils with 15 points as they ended with a 19-8 season record.
