The Mount Marty men’s basketball team jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first half and held on to surprise top-seed and nationally-ranked Morningside 76-73 last night in Sioux City in the opening round of the G-PAC playoffs. The Lancers shot 54 percent from the field in snapping a 21-game losing streak against the Mustangs and stunning the regular season conference champions on their home court. Chad Moran paced the Lancers with 22 points and 8 rebounds, Jailen Billings poured in 19 points and Terrell Harper grabbed 12 rebounds in the victory. Mount Marty will now face Dakota Wesleyan at 3:00 Saturday in the Corn Palace in the semi-final round of the G-PAC playoffs.
The other G-PAC men’s basketball semifinal will pit Jamestown at Northwestern. The conference women’s semifinals include Briar Cliff at top-seed Morningside while Northwestern will visit Concordia. There were a total of eight games last night in the G-PAC playoffs and the Mount Marty men were the only road team to get a victory.
