Legendary FB Coach Max Hawk Passes Away Friday

When he retired from coaching after leading the Yankton Bucks to the state football title in 1994, Max Hawk had a career record of 284 wins and 78 losses which was the all-time South Dakota record.  Max Hawk passed away Friday in Arizona at the age of 87.  Hawk coached football for a total of 38 years at Yankton and Scotland, and guided the Bucks to eight state championships and 17 E-S-D Conference titles.  He also served as the Executive Director of the South Dakota High School Coaches Association and was the National President of the High School Coaches Board of Directors, and was named the National High School Football Coach of the Year.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Yankton.
