The Yankton County Commission has approved a temporary moratorium on electrical energy storage.
Commissioner Ryan Heine says the reason the moratorium was brought forward to the commission is because there is a company interested in putting a battery storage facility in the county.
Tom Glanzer, the Community Relations Manager for Northwestern Energy, appeared as a spokesperson for the company, saying Northwestern approves of battery storage, but it must be done carefully.
The moratorium is for 12 months, but could be resolved before it expires.
