The Yankton Gazelles advanced to the Class AA State Quarterfinals last night with a 5-4 penalty kick victory over Sioux Falls Lincoln.
After 80 minutes of regulation and another 20 of extra time, the Gazelles and Patriots remained deadlocked at 0-0.
Eden Wolfgram, Kylie Bentley, Olivia Woods, and Addison Brodeur all scored in the shootout, before Lucy Johnson punctuated the 5-4 victory for Yankton.
The Gazelles advance to take on Rapid City Stevens on Saturday in the AA Quarterfinals in Rapid City.
The Yankton Bucks had their season come to an end last night with a 5-0 loss to Sioux Falls Lincoln in the AA Playoff opening round.
With the loss, Yankton ends 2026 with a 3-10-2 overall record and a postseason appearance. Lincoln advances to take on Sioux Falls Christian in round two.
The Bucks graduate four seniors from this year’s squad, Antonio Guitron, Noah Vanzee, Diego Fuentes, and Fernando Berzaga.
Yankton Bucks Golf wrapped up the Class AA State Tournament yesterday with an 8th place finish after shooting 307 on day two.
Yankton ended the event at 617 over two rounds. Kai Cody led the Bucks individually, shooting a 1-over 72 on Tuesday to tie for 11th for the tournament.
Gus Sprakel shot a two-day 155 to tie for 32nd. Rounding out the Bucks two-day totals Easton Schelhaas shot 156, Elijah Larson shot 158, Brayden Byrkeland shot 162, and Max Dobler shot 165.
Cody, Sprakel, Schelhaas, Larson, and Dobler all graduate from this year’s tournament squad, with Byrkeland (Sophomore) set as the only returner for next year.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball swept Huron last night, winning 25-13, 25-18, and 25-14 over three sets.
Jordyn Kudera paced the Gazelles with 15 kills, followed by 8 each from Madison Gukeisen and Burkley Olson. Brenna Elwood tallied 37 assists in the win.
Yankton will take on Sioux Falls Roosevelt in Sioux Falls on October 13th for their next match.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer will host Concordia tonight at Crane-Youngworth Field.
On the women’s side, The Lancers and Bulldogs sit atop the GPAC standings with identical 5-0-0 GPAC record, sitting on 15 points each.
For the men’s game, Concordia leads the pack with 12 points and a 4-0-0 record, while the Lancers are 1-3 in the conference, ranked 9th with 3 points.

Augustana Head Football Coach Jerry Olszewski will be the featured speaker at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club Meeting at the River Rock Event Center.
Olszewski is in the midst of his 14th season as Head Coach at Augustana, leading them to a 127-67 overall record, including a 4-2 start to 2026.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon. A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15. The public is invited to attend.
The SDHSAA Class AA Girls Tennis State Tournament begins tomorrow in Rapid City, with the Yankton Gazelles set to compete.
The two-day event will be held between Sioux Park and Parkview in Rapid City. Matches are scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM Mountain Time tomorrow morning.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance travel to Watertown tomorrow afternoon for a varsity invitational.
The Gazelles Cheer program is coming off their best performance of the season on Monday, where they scored a season-high 252.5 in Harrisburg.
Events are scheduled to be held at Watertown High School, beginning at 5:00 PM Thursday.
The Vermillion Tanagers are the 2026 Class A Boys’ Golf State Champions, shooting 582 over two-days in Mitchell.
Vermillion’s Jeran Carr and Rylan Moran both finished at 1-under 143 for the tournament to post the top score. Moran would win in a playoff to win Vermillion’s first individual title since 2002.
The title is the 4th in program history for the Tanagers, and their 3rd since 2022. The victory also marks Vermillion’s fifth consecutive top-2 finish at state.
