Yankton Bucks Golf shot a season-best 296 as a team yesterday to win the Watertown Invitational at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.
Yankton was ten strokes clear of second-place Brandon Valley and Brookings, led by a 3rd place individual finish from Brayden Byrkeland, who shot a 1-under 71.
Elijah Larson shot 1-over 73 to tie for 4th individually, with Max Dobler (75) and Kai Cody (77) rounding out the team scoring. Also competing for Yankton, Gus Sprakel shot 84, and Easton Schelhaas shot 87.
Next up for the Bucks is the ESD Conference Championship meet on Monday at Brookings Country Club.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf placed 3rd and 9th, respectively, at the MMU Invitational at Tatanka Golf Course.
The Lancer men shot a two-day 610 to take 3rd, led by Max Glasheen, 7th at 149, Lane Tvedt, 8th at 150, and Leo Garcia, 11th at 151. Also competing for the Lancer men, Breckun Metcalf shot 156, Corbin Tople shot 160, Cameron Zahrbock finished at 165, Jerome Zebroski shot 166, Cullen Pollard shot 170, Ryker Larsen finished at 171, Austin Martin shot 177, and Evan Ness finished at 199.
The Lancer women finished with a two-day total of 746. Abigail Greenhoff led the Lancers with a 176, followed by a pair of 184s from Jaden Kortan and Trinity Palmquist. Also competing for the Lancers, Taylor O’Connell shot 199, and Jada Buse finished at 201.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer hosted their final home doubleheader of the season last night against the Harrisburg Tigers.
The Gazelles played the top-ranked Tigers to a 0-0 draw. Yankton are the first team this season to hold Harrisburg scoreless, and are the first draw of the season for the Tigers, who entered the match 11-0-0.
The Bucks ended the night with a 4-0 loss to Harrisburg. Noah Shudak made 8 saves in net.
The Bucks and Gazelles travel to Brandon next week for a doubleheader against Brandon Valley on Tuesday.
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball picked up their third straight win last night, defeating the Tea Area Titans 3-1 in Tea.
Yankton dropped the opening set 25-23 before winning three straight 25-15, 26-24, and 25-21.
Burkley Olson (14) and Madison Gukeisen (12) combined for 26 kills for the Gazelles, with Gukeisen adding 5 blocks. Brenna Elwood tallied 40 assists.
Yankton has a week off before their next match, on the road against Watertown on September 29th.
Mount Marty Volleyball resumes GPAC play tonight against the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Lancers are coming off a pair of non-conference wins this past weekend, defeating Haskell Indian Nations University 3-0 and York University 3-1.
First serve from Omaha between the Lancers and Flames is scheduled for 7:30 PM Wednesday evening.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer will be in Omaha tonight for their second conference match of the season against the College of Saint Mary.
The Lancer women were dominant in their GPAC opener on Saturday, shutting out Waldorf in a 5-0 victory.
Kickoff between the Lancers and Flames is scheduled for 3:00 PM Wednesday afternoon.
Wayne State Head Football Coach Logan Masters and Yankton Gazelles Soccer Coach Tyler Schuring will be the featured speakers at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club Meeting.
Masters is in his 5th season as Wildcats Head Coach, tallying a 34-15 record. Schuring has been the lone head coach in program history for the Gazelles, winning two ESD Conference titles and a state championship during his tenure.
The meeting will be held at the River Rock Event Center at noon. A meal will be available for purchase beginning at 11:15. The public is invited to attend.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis wraps up their regular season tomorrow with a rescheduled triangular against Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Washington.
The triangular was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed due to rain. The event will also be held indoors tomorrow at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls.
The Gazelles will face Harrisburg first at 9:00 AM, before taking on Sioux Falls Washington at 11:30 AM.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Cross Country will host their home meet tomorrow afternoon at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.
Both Yankton squads are coming off impressive finishes at the Norfolk Invite. The Gazelles placed 2nd behind top five finishes from Nora Youmans (1st), Avery Wuestewald (3rd), and Abby Johanneson (5th). The Bucks tallied a 4th place team finish, with Isaac Larrington (8th) and Luke Feimer (9th) placing inside the top ten.
Races are scheduled to begin at 4:15 PM.
