The Yankton Bucks have moved into second in the latest 11AA Football media poll after their 48-11 win over Aberdeen Central in week one.
The Bucks will host Pierre this week in a battle of the top-two ranked teams in 11AA. Kickoff for the game has been moved to 8:00 PM Friday, due to weather.
Two other area teams were ranked in the top five of their classes. The Bon Homme Cavaliers are 2nd in 9AA, while the Avon Pirates remain 4th in 9B.
Mount Marty Linebacker Brock Lubbers was named GPAC Defensive Player of the Week yesterday, after his impressive performance in the Lancers’ opener.
Lubbers led a stout Lancer defense, ending the day with seven tackles, 2.5 for loss, a pair of sacks, and two forced fumbles
Lubbers and the Lancers open GPAC play on Saturday, hosting Briar Cliff at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf ranks 5th in the team standings after day one of their opening home invitational.
The Lancers shot a 306 as a team yesterday at Hillcrest. Lane Tvedt shot a 2-over 74 to lead MMU individually.
Also for the Lancers, Leo Garcia finished at 76, Jerome Zebroski and Corbin Tople each shot 78, and Max Glasheen finished at 87.
The tournament concludes today at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.
University of South Dakota Quarterback Austyn Modrzewski (muh-jess-key) has earned Stats Perform National Freshman of the Week and Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Offensive & Newcomer of the Week honors after his impressive debut on Saturday.
Modrzewski was the Division I-era Coyote to throw for six touchdown passes, tying the school record set by Wesley Beschorner set in 2005.
The Coyotes travel to Greeley, Colorado, on Saturday for their next matchup with Northern Colorado.
Yankton Competitive Dance earned top honors this past weekend at the Aberdeen Central Invitational.
Yankton placed 1st in Jazz and 2nd in Pom to earn the top spot. Yankton also placed 4th in the competitive cheer competition.
Yankton will travel to Mitchell for an Invitational on Thursday. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer will host Sioux Falls Jefferson tonight in a boys and girls doubleheader.
Both Yankton squads are looking to bounce back from losses on Friday (Bucks 3-0 and Gazelles 2-0) to Aberdeen Central.

Yankton Gazelles Volleyball returns home tonight after their impressive weekend in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Yankton Bucks Head Football Coach Brady Muth will be the featured speaker at tomorrow’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.
Muth and the Bucks are 1-0 on the year heading into a highly anticipated matchup with Pierre this week.
