The Yankton Bucks started their 2026 football season on Friday with a dominant 48-11 win over Aberdeen Central.
Yankton scored in all three phases of the game. Offensively, Jackson Kudera threw three touchdown passes, and Emmett Hirschman secured a rushing touchdown. Defensively, Jaxon Ryken and Auston Conway both recorded a pick-six, and on special teams, Miles Drotzmann had a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown.
The Bucks will host Pierre this coming Friday in their home opener. The Governors defeated Sturgis in their first game 42-6.
Quarterback Rugby Ryken accounted for six total touchdowns on Saturday, as the Mount Marty Lancers defeated Clarke in their season opener 55-6.
Ryken threw for 361 yards and five touchdowns, adding 29 yards and another score on the ground. Moshe Richmond was the leading receiver, tallying five catches for 182 yards and a touchdown.
Brock Lubbers led a stout Lancer defense, ending the day with seven tackles, 2.5 for loss, a pair of sacks, and two forced fumbles. Arthur Oliver forced two turnovers as well, recording an interception and a fumble recovery.
The Lancers open GPAC play on Saturday, taking on Briar Cliff University at Crane-Youngworth Field.
The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles were swept by Aberdeen Central on Friday in their boys and girls soccer doubleheader.
Both Yankton squads were shut out in their losses, the Bucks falling 3-0 while the Gazelles lost 2-0.
The Bucks and Gazelles are back home tomorrow night, hosting Sioux Falls Jefferson. Kickoff from Yankton is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:15.
Mount Marty Volleyball improved to 6-4 on Saturday, defeating Bismarck State 3-1 in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Freshman Outside Hitter Annabella Suljuzovic led the Lancers with 13 kills. Caitlin Guenther followed with 12 kills and 4 blocks.
The Lancers begin GPAC play on Wednesday, hosting Doane inside Cimpl Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 7:00.
Lancers’ Head Coach Sophia Lobo Paes and captain Kate Tollinger will be the featured guests on tonight’s Lancer Locker on KYNT ahead of their home opener. The Locker begins at 5:30 this evening on KYNT and KYNTV
Yankton Gazelles Volleyball went 2-1 on Saturday in an invitational hosted at Norfolk (NE) High School.
The Gazelles won their first match of the day against Kearney 2-0, winning set one 25-19 and set two 25-17. Match two saw the Gazelles earn another sweep, defeating Columbus 26-24 and 25-14.
Yankton would lose their final match of the day in straight sets to Norfolk, falling 25-18 and 25-19.
The 3-2 Gazelles return home tomorrow night, hosting Sioux Falls Washington at Yankton High School. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer were winless on Saturday in their doubleheader against York University.
The Lancer women played to a 1-1 draw in the opening game, with Angelina Hopwood scoring the lone goal, assisted by Alyssa Rios.
York was able to score 3 goals in the final 11 minutes to claim the men’s game 5-3. Rylan Eide, James Starkey, and Evan Aveyard all scored for MMU in the loss.
The Lancer men are back in action on Friday, taking on the South Dakota School of Mines in Pierre, while the women are off until September 9th.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis went 1-1 on Saturday to round out their weekend in Brookings.
The Gazelles defeated Huron 6-3, winning 5 of the 6 singles matches, with Karalyn Koerner, Mary Rounds, Harper Anderson, Harper Weisenburger and Ramsey Anderson each earning a victory. Ramsey Anderson and Sienna Cuka earned the Gazelles’ lone doubles victory.
Yankton would fall to Aberdeen Roncalli in their other match of the day, 6-3. Koerner and Ramsey Anderson won in singles play, with Koerner and Rounds winning in doubles as well.
Yankton, 4-6, will host Brandon Valley and O’Gorman in a triangular on Tuesday. Matches are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
Yankton Bucks Golf is back in action tomorrow morning, traveling to Aberdeen for the Hub City Invitational.
The Bucks are coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes in their two competitions last week, led by a second-place individual finish for Eli Larson on Thursday in Huron.
Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen.
Mount Marty Men’s Golf opens their two-day home invitational today to kick off their 2026-27 season.
Day one of the event will be held at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, with tomorrow’s action scheduled for Fox Run. Tee time for both days is 10:00 AM.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans opened their 2026 football season with an impressive 34-10 win over Scotus Central Catholic on Friday.
Quarterback Grady Haberer finished the game 11-for-12 through the air for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns. Cooper Hochstein was the leading receiver, recording 3 catches for 54 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Trojans are back home again next week, hosting the Schuyler Warriors in Hartington.
The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats are 1-0 to begin their season, defeating Dundy County-Stratton on Saturday 56-18.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to their home opener this Friday night, hosting the Homer Knights in Hartington.

University of South Dakota Quarterback Ausyn Modrzewski tied a school record with six passing touchdowns in his first career start on Saturday, as the Coyotes defeated Central Connecticut State 59-20.
Modrzewski ended the day 16-for-20 for 306 yards and 6 touchdowns, adding 81 rush yards and another score on the ground. Six different players scored for the Coyote offense in the win.
Defensively, Wade Abrams and Gabriel Hardman led the way. Abrams recorded 9 tackles while Hardman had 8. Both recorded a TFL as well.
The Coyotes will travel to Greeley, Colorado, for their next game against Northern Colorado on September 5th.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits put up their second-most points since joining the Division I level on Saturday, defeating Stetson 70-7.
The Jackrabbits controlled the run game, tallying 393 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. James Basinger tallied 110 yards and a touchdown, with Corey Blair adding 107 yards and two scores of his own.
The Jackrabbits will travel to Evanston, Illinois, next Saturday to take on FBS opposition in Northwestern.
