The Yankton Bucks open their 2026 football season tonight, on the road against Aberdeen Central.
The Bucks are coming off their second state runner-up finish in the past three years in 2025, falling to the Pierre Governors in the state championship.
Kickoff from Aberdeen is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:00 PM with Brayden Butler and Josh Boelter.
Mount Marty University will host Clarke tomorrow in the opening game of the 2026 NAIA Football season.
The Lancers finished this past season with a 4-7 overall record, including a 37-22 win over Clarke in Dubuque, Iowa.

Yankton Gazelles Volleyball fell to 1-1 last night with a 3-0 loss to the defending Class A State Champions, Dakota Valley.
The Gazelles led early in set one, 10-4, before Dakota Valley went on a 21-6 run to win 25-16. Set two ended 25-17, before the Panthers clinched the win with a 25-9 final set.
Yankton travels to Norfolk, Nebraska, this weekend for a trio of matches. Yankton will play Norfolk, Kearney, and Columbus during the event.
Yankton Bucks Golf earned another runner-up finish yesterday, shooting 308 to take 2nd at the Huron Invitational.
Elijah Larson placed 2nd for the Bucks individually, finishing 1 stroke behind Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring. Gus Sprakel (6th) also finished in the top-10 with a 75.
Rounding out Yankton’s scoring, Easton Schelhaas shot 79, and Kai Cody shot 83. Also competing for Yankton, Brayden Byrkeland and Max Dobler shot 84.
Yankton travels to the Hub City Invitational on Tuesday at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Cross Country both placed 3rd yesterday at their season opener in Sioux Falls.
The Gazelles were led by a 5th place finish from Nora Youmans, who completed the race with a time of 15:06.58. Abby Johanneson (10th) and Avery Wuestewald (13th) also placed in the top-15 for Yankton.
Luke Feimer paced the Bucks, placing 4th in 12:52.11. Luke Jacobson placed just outside the top-10, taking 12th in 13:22.90.
The Bucks and Gazelles are back in Sioux Falls on September 4th for a competition at Yankton Trail Park.
The Cedar Catholic Trojans will host Scotus Central Catholic tonight in their first game of the 2026 football season.
The Trojans are coming off a 10-1 season in 2025, where they advanced to the State Quarterfinals before being eliminated by Ord.

Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer will host Aberdeen tonight in a doubleheader at Crane-Youngworth Field.
The Gazelles are coming off a 3-0 shutout over Tea Area earlier this week, while the Bucks look to improve on their 2-2 draw with the Titans.
The boys will play first at 5:00 PM, with the girls to follow.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis will travel to Brookings this morning for a varsity quadrangular involving Brookings, Aberdeen Central, and Harrisburg.
Yankton will face Brookings first at 1:00 PM, before taking on Aberdeen Central at 3:00. Yankton will not face Harrisburg during the event.
Matches will be held at the Hillcrest Tennis Courts in Brookings.
Mount Marty Soccer travels to York, Nebraska, tomorrow for a men’s and women’s doubleheader against York University.
The women are scheduled to play first at noon, with the men to follow at 2:30 PM.

The South Dakota Coyotes start their 2026 Football campaign tomorrow, as they host Central Connecticut State inside the DakotaDome.
The Coyotes are entering their first season under new head coach Matt Vitzthum. USD will also have a new face under center, as redshirt-freshman Austyn Modrzewski was named the starter leading up to the opener.
Kickoff from the DakotaDome in Vermillion is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits will host Stetson tomorrow night in their 2026 football season opener.
The Jackrabbits finished 2025 with a 9-5 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.
Kickoff from Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings is scheduled for 6:00 PM tomorrow night.
