The South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament officially began yesterday, but three South Central League teams will start their quest for a state championship today in Mitchell.
Lesterville will face Garretson first at 11:00 AM, followed by Wynot against Lake Norden at 5:30 PM and Crofton against Alexandria at 7:30.
The final SCL representative, Tabor, will open their tournament tomorrow night, taking on Mount Vernon at 7:30 PM.

The Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament begins tomorrow, with Riverside Field in Yankton playing host to the opening weekend of games.
Eight teams make up this year’s field for the double-elimination tournament. The South Central League Champion Yankton Lakers will be joined by the Tea Steam, Brookings Cubs, Harrisburg Woodies, Black Hills A’s, Aberdeen Circus, Renner Monarchs, and Sioux Falls Brewers.
Yankton will play Harrisburg in the final game of night one at 8:00 PM. The tournament begins with Brookings facing Tea at 5:30 tomorrow night.

Miles Krajewski opened the 2026 Peru Para Badminton International with a straight-set sweep in men’s singles yesterday afternoon.
Krajewski defeated Brazil’s Vinicius De Oliveira Costa 21-10 and 21-17 to earn the victory.
Krajewski is back in action today, taking on Emilien Langelier of Canada. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM in Lima, Peru.
University of South Dakota student-athletes account for 128 selections on the Summit League’s Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, with men’s basketball, men’s cross country, and volleyball each receiving the Team Academic Achievement Award, announced by the conference office Wednesday.
The Coyotes had the second most selections of any school in the conference for the 2025-26 academic year with 128, while totaling 47 “with distinction” honors, the second most in the conference.
The South Dakota men’s basketball, men’s cross country, and volleyball teams each earned the conference’s Team Academic Achievement Award. The team academic achievement award is presented to the school in each sport with the highest percentage of eligible student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List.
For a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, the student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA, have used a year of eligibility, and have completed three full semesters or five quarters at the nominating institution. Student-athletes having a 3.9 or higher cumulative career grade-point average are designated “with distinction.”

Yankton alum Matthew Mors was one of SDSU’s 118 total selections and was one of two representatives for the men’s basketball program.
The Jackrabbits had 45 athletes earn “with distinction” honors by maintaining a cumulative career grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
