Yankton Post 12 had their legion baseball season come to an end on Friday, falling to Rapid City Post 22 4-3 in the Class A State Tournament.
After falling behind early, Yankton was able to tie the game at two runs in the 5th, before Easton Feser launched a solo home run to give Yankton a 3-2 lead
Post 22 would score two runs in the bottom of the 5th to retake the lead and hold on to their advantage until the end.
Yankton ends their season in the final four of the state tournament for the third time in the last four years. Their final record for 2026 is 25-13. Rapid City Post 22 would go on to win the State Championship, defeating Sioux Falls West 8-3 on Saturday.
A Yankton Baseball Fan Appreciation Night will take place this evening at Riverside Field, featuring a game between this year’s Yankton Post 12 squad and alumni from the Yankton Lakers.
The six-inning game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM this evening at Riverside Field. Concessions will be open during the game.
There will also be door prizes, and free-will donations will be accepted, all going towards funding for the Yankton Baseball Association.
The Tabor Bluebirds captured the District 6B Championship on Saturday with a 7-6 victory over the Wynot Expos.
Chase Kortan led Tabor at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Matt Brown struck out eight batters over six innings for the win on the mound.
Peyton Wieseler and Devin Lammers both recorded two hits for Wynot. Wieseler scored two runs while Lammers had two RBIs.
Both teams qualify for the Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament, beginning August 5th in Mitchell.
The Lesterville Broncs and Crofton Bluejays earned spots in the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Saturday with victories in a pair of qualifiers.
Lesterville punched their ticket with a 14-1 win over Freeman. Tyler Edler tallied three hits, two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored to power the Broncs’ offense. Michael Drotzmann picked up the win on the mound.
Crofton earned their spot with a 13-7 victory over Menno. Seth Wiebelhaus and Zach Clark combined for seven hits for the Bluejays, with Clark driving in four runs. Brayden Hegge pitched five shutout innings of relief for the win on the mound.
Lesterville and Crofton will be joined by Tabor and Wynot as the four District 6B representatives at the state tournament. Crofton will face Alexandria, Wynot will face Lake Norden, and Lesterville will take on Garretson on August 6th, while Tabor will play Mount Vernon on August 7th.
Yankton brothers Cole and Lane Sawatzke both recorded a hole-in-one on Saturday on separate holes during the Hillcrest Invitational Pro-AM.
Cole earned his ace first with a hole-in-one on the 6th hole, while Lane would match the feat on the 16th. Lane would go on to finish tied for 5th in the amateur division, won by Bryan Lemkau of Muscatine, Iowa.
Braxton Watts defeated Zander Winston in a play-off to claim the top spot in the pro division. Sioux Falls native Chris Gilman was the highest-finishing South Dakotan, tying for 11th. The senior division title went to Yankton’s Dan Megard, who shot a 220 for the tournament.
