Yankton Post 12 is one of four teams remaining in the Class A Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament, following a 10-1 win over Brookings yesterday.
Yankton stacked seven runs in the 7th inning to pull away for the win. Gavin Johnson went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Samuel Gokie pitched the complete game on the mound, allowing four hits and recording four strikeouts.
Yankton will take on Rapid City Post 22 tonight at 7:00 PM Mountain, 8:00 PM Central. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 7:30 Central with Brayden Butler on the call.
SD Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament Results (Day Three):
- Watertown defeated Rapid City Post 320 7-0. Post 320 is eliminated with the loss
- Yankton defeated Brookings 10-1. Brookings is eliminated with the loss.
- Rapid City Post 22 defeated Sioux Falls West 12-2

Yesterday’s scheduled District 6B State Qualifier games between Lesterville & Freeman and Menno & Crofton were postponed due to field conditions and weather in the area.
Both games will now take place tomorrow as Menno takes on Crofton at 1:00 PM, while Freeman faces Lesterville at 4:00 PM.
Tomorrow will serve as a tripleheader, as Tabor will face Wynot in the District 6B Championship game, beginning at 7:00 PM.
Norfolk, Nebraska, native Luke Kluver leads the pro division of the Hillcrest Pro-Am Invitational after the opening day, shooting a 10-under 62 on day one.
Kluver is followed by Jaxon Dowell (Edmond, OK) and George Kneiser (Dousman, WI), who both shot 8-under 64.
A trio of players with Yankton ties hold the top three spots in the amateur division. Former Yankton resident Marc Gubbels is 1st at 3-under 69, followed by Yankton natives Reid Sawatzke (70) and Ryan Elwood (71).
Dan Megard of Yankton leads the Senior Division after shooting an even par 72 in the opening round.
The meet continues today, with the first tee times scheduled for 7:00 AM at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
University of South Dakota senior running back Charles Pierre Jr. has been named to the Shriners Children’s 1000 Watch List heading into the 2026 season.
Pierre Jr. is one of 14 Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) athletes, representing five schools, to be named to the watch list to start the season.
The Shriners Children’s East-West Bowl has served as a launching pad for future NFL talent for more than a century. Invitations to the game are determined through evaluations conducted throughout the year by the East-West Bowl scouting staff.
