The Class A Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament begins tomorrow in Rapid City, and Yankton Post 12 enters this year’s event as the #3 seed.
Yankton holds a 23-11 overall record, 17-6 in league play, after sweeping Aberdeen last week in their first-round series.
Yankton will face #6 Rapid City Post 320 tomorrow in round one. Yankton won the lone regular-season meeting between the two teams 7-1 on June 24th.
First pitch between the two teams is scheduled for 5:00 PM Central, 4:00 PM Mountain Time at Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City.

The Freeman Black Sox and Lesterville Broncs met in Menno last night for their opening-round matchup of the District 6B Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Lesterville would claim the 8-5 win, setting up a matchup with top-seeded Tabor tomorrow night. The Broncs were led by a combined six hits and four RBIs from Michael Drotzmann and Derek Quame.
Riley Tschetter led Freeman in hits in the loss, ending the night 2-for-5 with a run scored. Bailey Sage scored two runs while drawing three walks.
Lesterville will now face Tabor tomorrow night in Menno. First pitch between the Broncs and Bluebirds is scheduled for 6:00 PM, with Crofton vs Wynot to follow.
Offensive Coordinator Tim Morrison has been elevated to Associate Head Coach of South Dakota football, head coach Matt Vitzthum announced late last week.
Morrison has been on staff for three seasons, joining then-head coach Bob Nielson’s staff in 2023. In his first two seasons in Vermillion, he served as the tight ends coach and was promoted to the Offensive Coordinator position last season.
All three seasons Morrison has been on staff, the Coyotes have won 10+ games and reached at least the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs
University of South Dakota alum Chris Nilsen claimed the top spot in the men’s pole vault on Saturday at the US Track and Field Championships in New York.
Nilsen cleared 19-1 (5.82 meters) to take home the top spot. The title is his seventh overall and fourth outdoor in the men’s pole vault.
Fellow USD alum Emily Grove also earned a podium finish, placing second in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 15-5 (4.70 meters).
Three other athletes with USD ties placed highly in their events. Anna Willis tied for 6th in the women’s pole vault as the youngest competitor in the field, Sara Reifenrath placed 13th in the women’s 400-meter, and USD Volunteer Assistant Maggie Ewen placed 7th in the women’s shot put.
