Yankton Post 12 punched their ticket to the Class A Senior Legion Baseball State Tournament yesterday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Aberdeen.
Liam Villanueva led Yankton in hits, finishing the day 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jackson Kudera (3) and Beck Ryken (2) combined to drive in five of Yankton’s eight runs.
Kaden Hunhoff earned the win on the mound, striking out two batters. Boston Frick and Sam Gokie both pitched scoreless relief to seal the win.
Yankton enters the state tournament as the #3 seed. The Tournament officially begins on July 28th in Rapid City.
Due to rain throughout the area last night, the District 6B Amateur Baseball matchup between Freeman and Lesterville has been postponed.
The two teams will now meet on Sunday, with the winner taking on top-seeded Tabor in the next round.
The first games of the tournament will now be held tonight in Menno, with Menno, Wynot, Crofton, and Irene all in action, beginning at 6:00 PM.
District 6B Amateur Baseball Tournament (Round One):
- #3 Menno vs #6 Crofton – 6:00 PM Friday.
- #2 Wynot vs #7 Irene – 8:00 PM Friday.
- #4 Lesterville vs #5 Freeman – Sunday.
The Yankton Bucks Golf program will hold a meeting today for boys entering the 7th through 12th grades who are interested in participating in the 2026 fall season.
The meeting will be held from 12 PM to 1 PM in Room 235 at YHS. If you can’t attend, contact Coach Sime via email at brett.sime@k12.sd.us.
The Class AA boys’ golf season is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10.
University of South Dakota Head Softball Coach Shannon Pivovar announced yesterday the addition of Tyler Fuller to her staff for the 2027 season.
Fuller comes to Vermillion after two seasons on staff at Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) as an assistant coach.
Prior to his time at Coffeyville, he spent three seasons with Division II Pittsburg State (Kan.) from 2022-24. The Gorillas improved win totals in each of his three seasons on staff, culminating with the 2024 MIAA Regular Season championship. He coached four All-Americans and seven All-Region athletes while at Pittsburg State.
Fuller is the second assistant coach to join Pivovar’s staff ahead of her first season as head coach.
For the 12th straight year, the South Dakota Coyotes volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.
To be eligible for the AVCA Team Academic Award, teams must maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. The Coyotes posted a 3.73 GPA in the 2025-26 academic year to earn their 14th overall Team Academic Award. The Coyotes were one of 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball teams nationwide to be recognized by the AVCA.
In addition to the team award, South Dakota’s success in the classroom saw three athletes named to the Summit League Volleyball Academic All-League Team in Avery Van Hook, Kamryn Farris and Amanda Loschen. Van Hook, Farris, Loschen and Morgan Bode were also recognized on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District Team.
