The Yankton Lakers continued to roll last night, earning their sixth straight win with a 12-7 victory over Vermillion.
Joe Gokie tallied three hits in four at-bats to lead the Yankton offense, scoring a pair of runs and driving in another. Danny Mosarah earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts.
The Lakers now hold a 17-2 overall record and have outscored their opponents 61-26 during their winning streak.
Mount Marty Athletics Hall of Famer Craig Mock will earn another accolade later this year, as he will be inducted into the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
After finishing a successful college career that saw him place highly on multiple all-time charts, Mock played 18-years across multiple teams, including the Tabor Bluebirds and Scotland during their time in the South Central League.
During his amateur career, Mock was part of five state runner-up teams, was a two-time all-tournament selection, and regularly held a batting average over .400.
Mock will be inducted alongside Delwin “Del” Oschner of Alpena, Wes Risse of Martin, Brian Relf of Flandreau, and Joe Maunders of Lennox during a ceremony on November 1st in Flandreau.
The University of Nebraska announced their 2026 Football Hall of Fame Class earlier this week, headlined by NFL All-Pro Lavonte (La-von-tay) David.
Five more Husker standouts will join David. Defensive back Charles Fryar, offensive lineman Jim Scott, fullback Cory Schlesinger, I-back Cory Ross, and late punter Sam Foltz.
Along with the former Husker athletes, Joe Planansky, a two-time All-America tight end at Chadron State, will be this year’s state college inductee, former head coach Frank Solich will be presented with the second annual Nebraska Football Hall of Fame Legend Award, and long-time Husker Radio broadcaster Kent Pavelka will receive the Lyell Bremser Special Merit Award.
The 2026 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted at a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 4. The group will be recognized the following day at Memorial Stadium when Nebraska opens the 2026 season against Ohio.
The South Central Amateur Baseball League will have at least one game every night over the 4th of July weekend, starting tonight with Lesterville hosting Tabor.
Games continue with Crofton hosting Wynot on Friday, Menno hosting Freeman on Saturday, and a trio of games on Sunday, Freeman vs Tabor, Irene vs Crofton, and Wynot vs Lesterville.
