Yankton Post 12 will travel to Brookings tonight to take on the Post 74 Bandits in a legion baseball doubleheader.
Yankton and Brookings are both off to hot starts in the legion season. Brookings is currently 2nd in the standings at 4-2, with Yankton 5th at 5-3.
First pitch of game one between Yankton and Brookings is scheduled for 5:00 PM this evening, with game two to follow.
The South Central Amateur Baseball League returns to action tonight with a trio of games.
Tabor will host Lesterville to open this week’s Czech Days festivities. Tabor is tied for 3rd in the SCL at 4-3, with Lesterville 2nd at 5-2.
Irene will travel to Freeman with the Cardinals, looking for their first league victory of the season. A win for Freeman would move them to .500 in the SCL.
Menno will host Wynot as the Mad Frogs look to extend their hot streak after scoring 27 runs over their last two games.
Yankton and Crofton are both off for league play tonight, with both teams scheduled to return to action on Sunday. Tonight’s games are scheduled for 7:30 PM.
The University of South Dakota has announced that seven individuals and one team will be inducted into the USD Athletics Hall of Fame
This year’s inductees include Emily Grove (Women’s Track and Field), Chris Nilsen (Men’s Track and Field), Greysen Hertting (Women’s Swimming and Diving), Brooks Little (Football), Audrey Reeg (Volleyball), Nicole Seekamp (Women’s Basketball), Bruce Fischbach (Special Contributor), and the 2015-16 Women’s Basketball Team that captured the program’s first WNIT title.
With the induction of this year’s class, the USD Athletics Hall of Fame will now feature 356 members and 22 teams.
The 2026 Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 9, ahead of the October 10 football game against Southern Illinois at the DakotaDome.
University of South Dakota Sophomore Anna Willis has been named the Summit League Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Willis capped off her Sophomore campaign with a 3rd place finish at this past week’s NCAA Championships, clearing 15-2 3/4ths in the women’s pole vault.
Willis is South Dakota’s seventh Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year on the women’s side. The previous six awards were won by three athletes, all in back-to-back seasons. Bethany (Buell) Firsick won in 2012 and 2013, Emily Grove in 2016 and 2017, and Gen Hirata in 2023 and 2024.
Willis completes a sweep of the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year honors for USD, as teammate Marleen Mülla won the indoor honor in March.
The 34th Yankton Girls’ Softball Association Father’s Day Tournament begins tomorrow in Yankton, with 58 teams set to compete across 5 divisions.
Yankton will have ten teams compete in the tournament. Fury Lancers 10u and Fury White 9u in the U10 division, Fury Lancers 12u, Fury Outlaws 12u, Fury Red 12u, and Fury Storm 12 in the U12 division, Fury Black 14u and Fury Diamonds in the U14 division, Fury Lancers 15u in the U16 division, and Fury Gazelles 17u in the U18 division.
Games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM tomorrow afternoon.
