Yankton Post 12 opens the 2026 Dakota Classic Legion Baseball Tournament this afternoon in Sioux Falls.
Yankton Post 12 are one of forty-six teams in this year’s tournament. They will compete in the Sanford Field #4 Pool against Pierre Post 8, Ralston (NE), Columbus (NE), and Kindred (ND).
Yankton enters the Dakota Classic with a 7-2 record. Post 12 advanced to the semifinals of last weekend’s Lewis & Clark Classic, and most recently swept Aberdeen in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 9-0, 9-4.
Yankton’s first game will be at 2:30 PM against Pierre, immediately followed by a matchup with Ralston. All pool games will be held at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls.
Six Yankton United Soccer teams are set to compete in the Norfolk Express Soccer Tournament this weekend in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Four boys’ teams will compete this weekend. Yankton will have one team each in the U18 and U13 divisions, with two more teams split between the U10 (United Red) and U9/10 (United White).
Two United girls’ teams are scheduled to compete in the U18 division and the U14 division.
The first game of the day for any Yankton team will be the Boys U18 squad, kicking off against VSYL at 9:30 AM Saturday.
The Yankton Lakers posted six runs in the first inning of their South Central League matchup with Freeman last night, en route to a 17-1 victory.
Tristan Fitzsimmons and Matthew Sheldon powered the Yankton offense, with each driving in four runs. Cade Sudbeck struck out 8 batters over 4 innings for the win on the mound.
Yankton and Freeman are both on the road for their next league games on Sunday. Yankton will travel to Irene while Freeman plays at Crofton.
The Lesterville Broncs and Crofton Bluejays lit up the scoreboard last night, as the two teams combined for 35 runs in their South Central League matchup.
Lesterville would come out on top 19-16. Tyler Edler had 5 hits, 5 RBIs, and a home run for the Broncs. Seth Wiebelhaus tallied a pair of home runs and 3 RBIs for Crofton. Dawson Bietz was credited with the win on the mound.
Both teams return to league play on Sunday. Crofton hosts Freeman, while Lesterville travels to Menno.
Tabor used an eight-run opening inning to propel themselves to a 10-4 win over Wynot last night in South Central League play.
Riley Rothschadl led Tabor at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run. Landon Bares earned the win on the mound, while Landon Wieseler took the loss.
Both squads are off for SCL play until June 18th, when Tabor hosts Lesterville, and Wynot travels to Menno.
The Menno Mad Frogs outlasted the Irene Cardinals for a 14-11 win last night in South Central League action.
Dylan Lehr posted a team-high 3 hits in the win for Menno. Dustin Livingston finished 3-for-4 at the plate for Irene with a pair of RBIs.
Next up for both teams, Menno hosts Lesterville on Sunday, while Irene is scheduled to host Yankton, also on Sunday.

University of South Dakota track and field had two women’s pole vaulters set different program records Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Willis placed 3rd in the competition to become the first Coyote woman at the Division I level to place third or better in both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championship meets in the same season. Willis joins Chris Nilsen as the only Coyotes, regardless of gender, to do it at the Division I level.
Marleen Mülla’s 12th-place finish gives her a seventh all-American honor, the most for a Coyote woman in Division I program history, tying her with Nilsen for the most Division I all-Americans in school history overall.
