The Republican candidates in the State Senate and House races in District 18 were decided in the South Dakotan Republican primary Tuesday night.
State Senator Lauren Nelson won in a rematch versus former Senator Jean Hunhoff with 53% of the vote (1,831). Hunhoff had 47% of the vote (1,608).
Nelson moves on to the general election in November against Democratic candidate Kay Swihart.
In the House race, incumbent Mike Stevens was the top vote getter with 41% of the vote (2,208).
In second place in the House race was Yankton County Commission Chair, John Marquardt with 32% of the vote (1,695).
Michael Nutley placed third with 27% (1,437). Stevens and Marquardt move on to the general election in November along with Democratic candidate Karen Springer.
