The Yankton Gazelles are tied for 8th after the opening day of the Class AA Girls’ Golf State Tournament in Watertown.
Yankton shot a 351 on the opening day. Aberdeen Central leads the competition at 295, 9 strokes clear of 2nd-place O’Gorman.
Sabrina Krajewski currently leads the Gazelles individually, as she is tied for 16th after an opening round 80. Also for Yankton, Ellia Homstad and Josslyn Elwood shot 87, Harper Anderson shot 97, Olivia Woods shot 100, and Bailey Anderson shot 101.
The tournament concludes today at Cattail Golf Course in Watertown. Tee time is scheduled for 8:00 AM.
Yankton Post 12 are 1-1 to start their legion baseball season after splitting last night’s doubleheader with Brandon Valley Post 131.
Game one saw Yankton fall 6-5. Gavin Johnson and Easton Feser both recorded a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss.
A 7-run 4th inning propelled Yankton to a 9-0 win in game two. Beck Ryken threw 6 strikeouts over 6 innings for the win on the mound, while driving in 4 runs at the plate.
Yankton Post 12 now turns their attention to the Lewis & Clark Classic this weekend. Pool play will be held on Friday and Saturday, with the championship rounds scheduled for Sunday. Yankton is scheduled to play at 9:30 AM and 6:30 PM in both rounds of pool play.
Before last night’s Legion Baseball opener, Yankton Head Coach Drew Lawrence was announced as the 2026 Class A High School Baseball Coach of the Year.
Lawrence coached his squad to a 21-5 record in the high school season, as the team earned their first state semifinals berth in over a decade.
The Yankton School District has announced their spring sports athletes of the year for 2026.
Earning honors this year were Harrison Krajewski (Boys’ Tennis), Ellia Homstad (Girls’ Golf), Quinn Brinkman (Girls’ Track), Owen Eidsness (Boys’ Track), and Jocelyn Behrns (Softball).
