The 2026 Class AA Track and Field State Championships begin this morning at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
Yankton currently has 43 entries across individual and relay events, 22 for the Bucks and 21 for the Gazelles.
The boys’ pole vault and javelin get things started today for Class AA, with both events scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM.
Yankton Post 12 begins their legion baseball season on Sunday with a road matchup against Huron Post 7.
Yankton is fresh off one of their best high school seasons in recent memory, as they finished 21-5 with a State Semifinal appearance.
Yankton’s Samuel Gokie leads Post 12 after an impressive spring that saw him become the first back-to-back Class A High School Player of the Year. Gokie ended the campaign with a .486 average at the plate and a 0.651 ERA on the mound.
During the spring season, Huron finished 19th in Class A at 2-22, missing out on the postseason.
First pitch of game one from Huron on Sunday is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with game two to follow.
Yankton Bucks Offensive Lineman Austin Conway recently announced his commitment to Augustana University following his high school career.
Conway is a multi-year starter for the Bucks on the offensive line, starting at left tackle for the Bucks in his junior year.
Conway enters his senior season in the fall and will join Augustana as part of their 2027 recruiting class.
The Class AA Girls Golf State Tournament begins on Monday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
Competing for the Yankton Gazelles in the tournament will be Bailey Anderson, Harper Anderson, Ellia Homstad, Josslyn Elwood, Sabrina Krajewski, and Olivia Woods.
Tee time is scheduled for 8:00 AM on Monday.
University of South Dakota track athlete Jaden Damiano advanced to the men’s 110-hurdles Quarterfinals yesterday at the NCAA West Region First Round Meet.
Damiano finished in 13.59 seconds, claiming one of three automatic qualifying spots in his heat.
Damiano will compete again tomorrow at 6:15 PM, with a top-12 finish earning him a spot in the NCAA Championships.
Also competing today for USD, Caelan Harland, Beau Karst, Wyatt Stewart, Dylan Curtis, and Dutch Neuweiler will take part in the men’s pole vault at 2:40 PM, Anna Willis and Marleen Mülla will compete in the women’s pole vault, and Delaney Smith will compete in the women’s hammer throw.
