The Yankton Gazelles had their Softball season come to an end last night, as they fell to O’Gorman in the SoDak 16, 8-3.
Yankton recorded nine hits as a team. Brooklynn King accounted for two of Yankton’s runs, driving in Jocelyn Behrns and Kyra Tjeerdsma (Church-ma) with a triple.
Yankton ends their season with a 9-12 overall record and a SoDak 16 appearance. O’Gorman moves on to the Class AA State Tournament with the win.
Before yesterday’s SoDak 16 matchup, Yankton’s Kyra Tjeerdsma (Church-ma) was named ESD All-Conference following her senior softball season, with teammate Brooklynn King earning an Honorable Mention.
Tjeerdsma has been a four-year starter for the Gazelles. This season, she tallied a .446 batting average, with 21 RBIs, 16 runs scored, 7 steals, and two home runs.
King earned an honorable mention following an impressive junior season, in which she batted .383 with 22 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
The Yankton Gazelles shot 367 as a team yesterday to take 5th in the ESD Girls Golf Tournament in Aberdeen.
Yankton was led by a pair of All-ESD honorees, as Ellia Homstad placed 13th at 85, and Sabrina Krajewski was 15th at 87.
Rounding out team scoring for the Gazelles, Josslyn Elwood shot 97, and Bailey Anderson shot 98. Also for Yankton, Harper Anderson shot 100, and Olivia Woods finished at 107.
Aberdeen Central claimed the team title at 301, while Mitchell’s Maddie Childs took the top spot individually with a 3-under 69.
Yankton now turns their attention to the state tournament, June 1st and 2nd in Watertown.
The 2026 Class AA Track and Field State Championships begin tomorrow morning at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
Yankton currently has 43 entries across individual and relay events, 22 for the Bucks and 21 for the Gazelles.
Tomorrow’s action begins at 10:30 AM with the boys pole vault and boys javelin events at Howard Wood Field.
