The Mount Marty Lancers finished 8th as a team at the GPAC Women’s Golf Championships, which concluded yesterday in Dakota Dunes.
Morningside claimed the team title by 25 strokes over second-place Doane, finishing the tournament at +77 as a team. Dakota Wesleyan’s Allison Meyerink won the individual title, finishing at +14 over the three-round tournament.
The Lancers finished at +201, led by a 24th-place finish for Trinity Palmquist. Also for the Lancers, Abigail Greenhoff tied for 29th, Kamri Kittelson placed 38th, Jaden Kortan placed 42nd, and Gracie Brockberg finished 56th after subbing the final two rounds.
Yankton Bucks Baseball swept their Class A doubleheader against Sioux Falls Washington last night in Yankton.
Game one saw the Bucks take a 9-1 victory. The Bucks combined for 10 hits as a team. Jackson Kudera drove in three runs to lead the team in RBIs. Beck Ryken struck out seven batters over five innings for the win on the mound.
Game two saw a dominant pitching performance from Sam Gokie, as the Bucks won 4-1. Gokie faced two batters over the minimum in the win, allowing one hit and striking out eleven batters over seven innings.
The 12-2 Bucks are on the road for their next games, as they take on the Brandon Valley Lynx on Friday.
The Yankton Gazelles defeated the Mitchell Kernels in a Softball shootout last night, 16-13 in Yankton.
Jocelyn Behrns finished 3 for 4 for the Gazelles, while Kyra Tjeerdsma (Church-ma) finished 2 for 4 with a home run.
The 3-7 Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls on Friday, to take on Dakota Valley and Sioux Falls Christian at Sioux Falls Sherman Park.
The Yankton Bucks won 17 of their 18 matches yesterday during their tennis triangular in Vermillion.
The Bucks swept Lennox 9-0 in their opening matchup before defeating Vermillion 8-1.
The Bucks are back in action tomorrow, taking on Watertown and Brookings in a triangular at Watertown Highland Park. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
The Gazelles’ Tuesday morning tee time was delayed an hour in Pierre due to the temperature, but the girls’ golf event did finish up with heavily favored Aberdeen Central winning the team title at Hillsview Golf Course.
The Golden Eagles bested Mitchell by 30 strokes. The Gazelles, without their lead scorer this season, finished sixth in the eight-team event in front of Winner and Huron.
With Ellia Homstad inactive, it was Sabrina Krajewski leading the team with a 10th-place overall finish of 83. Bailey Anderson had a 90, Olivia Woods and Josslyn Elwood carded identical 105’s on the day.
The Gazelles will be back at it on Friday morning at Brandon Valley Golf Course as they square up against the host Lynx, as well as Harrisburg and O’Gorman, with a 9 am tee time.
Yankton Track and Field claimed eleven event victories yesterday at a five-team meet at Brandon Valley High School.
The Gazelles claimed six event wins. Individually, Burkley Olson won the 100, Rylie Moser won the 400, Nora Youmans won the 1600, and Rilyn Jackson won the 800. The Gazelles also claimed two relay wins. Olson, Moser, Auvianna Seiler, and Ava Hinnerichs won the 800 relay, and Abyy Johanesson, Kahlen Peterson, Avery Wuestewal, and Addi Muth won the 3200 relay.
The Bucks added five event wins. Jack Brandt won the 100, Isaac Paulson won the 3200, and Bryton Olson won the 1600. In relay events, Brandt, Alex Swihart, Tegan LaCroix, and Abe O’Brien won the 800 relay, and Paulson, Trystan Duchscher, Isaac Larrington, and Evan Olson won the 3200 relay.
Yankton will next compete in Sioux Falls on Friday.
The Mount Marty Lancers take on the Concordia Bulldogs today to open the GPAC Baseball Tournament.
The Lancers enter the postseason as the #7 seed, finishing the regular season with a 19-29 overall record, 10-18 in GPAC play.
First pitch from Sherman Field in Lincoln, Nebraska, is scheduled for 6:00 PM this evening. Pregame coverage with Tehl Tanner begins at 5:30.
