The Yankton Bucks and O’Gorman Knights split their Class A Baseball doubleheader last night at Riverside Field in Yankton.
The Knights took a 6-2 victory in game one, holding Yankton to two hits as a team, one from Easton Feser and one from Christian Weier.
The Bucks scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning in game two, and held on for a 4-3 win. Chase Cooley earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters over 6 and 2/3rds inning. Cooley retired 14 of the final 16 batters he faced.
Yankton has a week of rest before their next games, as they are scheduled to host Sioux Falls Washington next Tuesday in a doubleheader.
The Mount Marty Lancers ended the two-day GPAC Men’s Golf Championships yesterday with a 7th-place team finish.
The finish was the best in program history for the Lancers, led by a three-round total of 232 for Wout Kerkhofs to tie for 21st.
Hastings’ Max Nielsen would lead the Broncos to a team title, placing first individually, edging out teammate Taiki Sugawara by two strokes.
The previous best finish for the Lancer men at the GPAC Championships was a 9th-place finish in the 2001-2002 season.
Yankton Gazelles Golf hosted a quadrangular meet at Fox Run Golf Course on Tuesday. Conditions were ideal, and Brandon Valley’s Vanessa Smith led her team to victory by carding a meet-low four over par 76.
Brandon Valley was 1st of the four teams with a 324 on the day, while the Gazelles came in second with a 345. Yankton was paced by a runner-up individual finish from Ellia Homstad, who birdied that 18th hole for a six-over-par 78. Also finishing in the top 10 were Sabrina Krajewski and Josslyn Elwood, who tied for 5th with a pair of 88’s on the day.
Other scores for Yankton included a 91 from Harper Anderson and a 99 from Bailey Anderson. Brookings was 3rd as a team while Harrisburg was 4th.
The Gazelles will host another event at Fox Run on Thursday.
Yankton Track and Field claimed four event victories yesterday during an invitational at Brandon Valley High School.
Quinn Brinkman claimed a trio of top-two finishes, winning the girls’ long jump with a distance of 17 feet 7 inches, while placing second in both the high jump and triple jump.
Also for the Gazelles, Burkley Olson won the 100-meter dash and placed third in the long jump, while Maddie Tereshinski won the discus and took second in the shot put.
The Bucks were led by Cale Haselhorst, who won the boys’ 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.18 seconds. Jack Brandt added three top-three finishes for the Bucks, placing second in the 100 and 200-meter races, and third in the 400.
Yankton will return to Brandon on April 28th for their next competition.
Yankton Bucks Tennis capped off Senior Day yesterday with a 6-3 win over Sioux Falls Washington at Yankton High School.
Chris Rockne, Ethan Marsh, Jack Pedersen, and Zane Becker were undefeated on the day, winning their singles and doubles matches.
Yesterday’s home meet was the last of the regular season for Yankton. The Bucks honored eight seniors for Senior Day: Harrison Krajewski, Luke Moeller, Chris Rockne, Ethan Marsh, Jack Pedersen, Nels Hanson, Braelyn Hoover, and Michael Ferguson.
Next up for the Bucks is a matchup with the Harrisburg Tigers on Thursday in Harrisburg.
The Yankton Gazelles fell to the Brandon Valley Lynx last night in a Class AA Softball matchup at Sertoma Park
The Lynx scored 10 runs in the opening inning en route to a 19-5 win. Kyra Tjeerdsma accounted for three of Yankton’s five runs, scoring one herself and driving in two more.
The Gazelles travel to Sioux Falls on Thursday for their next game against O’Gorman.
The Mount Marty Lancers dropped both games to #24 Midland last night in their GPAC Softball doubleheader at Sertoma Park.
The Warriors took a 3-1 win over the Lancers in game one. Despite the loss, Kayleen Jacinto finished 3-for-4 at the plate, with Kalli Boom and Brigid McGill adding a pair of hits each.
The Lancers end their regular season on Saturday on the road agaisnt Hastings. The Lancers are currently 9th in the GPAC standings with a 5-15 conference record.
