Yankton County’s five commission candidates in the upcoming election, incumbents Ryan Heine and Dan Klimisch, Julie Auch, Nancy Wenande, and Robert Gliech gathered at the Elks Lodge Tuesday for a candidate forum.
With the county facing a $3.7 million deficit in 2026, the candidates were asked how they would handle the budget.
Klimisch says the county needs additional revenue or they will have to cut services.
Wenande says the key is to find ways to generate revenue.
Auch says she believes the budget problem is fixable.
Election day for the Yankton County Commission is June 2nd. Absentee voting begins Friday.
