The South Dakota Coyotes had their season come to an end last night in the WNIT “Fab Four” with a 67-60 loss to Illinois State.
Four different Redbirds scored in double figures. Doneelah Washington led with a game-high 21, followed by 14 each from Trista Fayta and Addison Martin.
Molly Joyce led the Coyotes with 16 points, adding 6 rebounds and a steal. Angelina Robles tallied 14 points, and Patience Williams had 10 to round out the Coyotes’ double-digit scorers.
USD ends their season with a 26-10 overall record. They finished 12-4 in Summit League play, advancing to the Summit League Tournament Semifinals.
The Coyotes more than doubled their win total in their second year under head coach Carrie Eighmey (Amy), improving from their 11-20 record last season.
The Redbirds will take on Marshall in the WNIT Championship on April 4th. The Thundering Herd earned their spot with a 69-62 win over Arkansas State.
South Dakota State Senior Brooklyn Meyer has been named the 2026 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year.
Meyer posted one of the best stat lines in school history this season, finishing 2nd all-time in points per game (22.6). Her 767 total points were the most in a single season in program history.
During her senior season, Meyer led SDSU to a Summit League Tournament Championship, where she was named Tournament MVP, an NCAA Tournament appearance, and a 22-7 overall record.
Meyer ends her SDSU career 3rd in points (2,097), 5th in rebounds (850), and 2nd in blocks (174).
Meyer is the second Summit League player to win the award in its seven-year history, joining South Dakota’s Ciara (Kear-uh) Duffy. The award is named after Rapid City, SD, native and Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon.
Mount Marty Track and Field will no longer compete in the Concordia Bulldog Invitational & Multi’s today and tomorrow, as the meet has been canceled.
The Lancers now turn their attention to the Sioux City Relays on April 10th and 11th in Sioux City, Iowa.
Wagner, South Dakota, native Ashlyn Koupal made history earlier this week, becoming the first South Dakotan to be selected for the McDonald’s All-American Girls’ Basketball game.
Koupal, a University of Nebraska commit, scored on one of her three shot attempts, as Team West fell to Team East 76-63.
Koupal ended her high school career as the Gatorade Player of the Year for South Dakota Girls’ Basketball, averaging 28 points, 14.2 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks per game. She is ranked as the #10 recruit in her class by 247Sports.
