Mount Marty Baseball fell to 12-16 on Saturday, dropping both games in their doubleheader against Briar Cliff.
The Chargers claimed a 4-2 win in game one. Daniel Vonnegut powered the Lancer offense, finishing 2 for 3 at the plate, driving in both runs.
Both teams scored in double figures in game two, as the Lancers fell 17-10. Vonnegut starred again, finishing 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
The Lancers are back home on Friday for the first half of their four-game series against Dordt. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Riverside Field.
The Mount Marty Lancers were swept by the Dordt Defenders on Saturday in their GPAC softball doubleheader.
The Lancers were shut out in game one, 8-0. Sara Ocegueda-Aguilar recorded the lone hit for MMU in the loss.
Game two ended 9-1 in favor of the Defenders. Megan Toplovich and Brooklyn Townsend each recorded a hit for MMU.
The Lancers travel to Storm Lake, Iowa, tomorrow for a non-conference matchup with Buena Vista University. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM with game two to follow.
Today’s scheduled baseball matchup between the Yankton Bucks and Beresford has been canceled.
Yankton will now open their 2026 campaign with a home doubleheader against Pierre on Saturday, March 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Riverside Field.
Yankton High School is hosting a spring sports kickoff on Tuesday, March 24th, in the YHS Commons.
Coaches of all YHS spring sports are expected to speak at the event, beginning at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to attend.
South Dakota Coyotes Women’s advanced to the “Super 16” round of the WNIT on Sunday, defeating Northern Colorado 80-60.
Angelina Robles led USD with 21 points in the win, adding 5 assists and 3 steals. Josie Hill followed with 11 points off the bench.
The Coyotes will host Pepperdine on Thursday in the round of 16. Tip-off from Vermillion is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits had their season come to an end on Friday with a 72-54 loss to Washington in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Brooklyn Meyer posted a team-high 29 points in the loss, adding 7 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal.
The Jackrabbits end their season with a 27-7 record, a Summit League Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Freeman Flyers claimed a Class B Boys Basketball State Championship on Saturday, defeating Castlewood 61-53 in the title game.
David Walter led the Flyers, posting 22 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while adding 4 assists. Luke Peters followed with 14 points.
The victory gives Freeman their first boys basketball state championship since 1975. Peters, Walter, and Tayden Kerrigan were all named to the Class B All-Tournament team following the win.

- West Central defeated Sioux Falls Christian 66-56 (State Championship).
