The SDAHA Boys Varsity Hockey State Tournament begins today in Sioux Falls, and the Yankton Bucks enter as the #3 seed, looking to improve on last season’s consolation championship.
The Bucks are 16-5-1 entering the postseason, with only one loss coming to teams below them in the standings.
Yankton will face the #6-seeded Oahe Capitals in round one at the Scheels Ice Plex in Sioux Falls. Yankton swept Oahe in the regular season, winning both meetings by a score of 5-2.
Puck drop is scheduled for noon, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 11:30 AM.
Three Yankton Bucks were honored yesterday as part of the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association All-State Team, led by a first-team selection for Goalie Luke Moeller.
Moeller held opponents to 1.49 goals per game, stopping over 93% of shots he faced. Moeller started every game in net for the 16-5-1 Bucks.
Earning second-team honors were forward Tucker Renken and Defenseman Kaden Hunhoff. Renken led the Bucks in goals with 26 and assists with 27 in the regular season. Hunhoff finished with 23 points on the year, tallying 11 goals and 12 assists.
Mount Marty baseball opens GPAC play this weekend with a four-game series against Concordia in Seward, Nebraska.
The Lancers enter conference play with 9 wins and 11 losses, coming off a 2-5 stretch during their stint in Florida.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday in Seward.
The Wynot Blue Devils had their season come to an end last night in the Class D2 Boys Basketball State Quarterfinals.
The #6-seeded Blue Devils fell to the #3-seeded O’Neill St. Mary’s 56-42 in their opening round matchup.
Wynot ends the season with a 16-12 overall record.
The South Dakota High School Girls Basketball Class AA, A, and B State Tournaments begin today.
The AA tournament will be held in Rapid City, the A tournament will be held in Watertown, and the B tournament will be held in Brookings.
