The SDAHA Boys Varsity Hockey State Tournament begins on Thursday in Sioux Falls, and the Yankton Bucks enter as the #3 seed, looking to improve on last season’s consolation championship.
The Bucks are 16-5-1 entering the postseason, with only one loss coming to teams below them in the standings.
Tucker Renken has led Yankton offensively, posting 53 points (5th in the state), with 26 goals (3rd in the state), and 27 assists (7th in the state).
Luke Moeller has been stellar in goal for Yankton, recording the most wins in net of any goalie, and his 5 shutouts rank 3rd most in the state. Moeller ranks 3rd in Save Percentage (0.932) and 4th in GAA (1.49) among goalies with more than 10 starts.
Yankton will face the #6-seeded Oahe Capitals on Thursday in round one at the Scheels Ice Plex in Sioux Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for noon, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 11:30 AM.
Mount Marty Softball fell to the University of South Dakota yesterday afternoon, 14-0, in Vermillion.
The Lancers were held to three hits as a team, one each from Kalli Boom, Sara Ocegueda-Aguila, and Brigid McGill.
The Lancers are now off until next Wednesday, March 18th, when they host the College of Saint Mary in a doubleheader to open GPAC play.
The Wynot Blue Devils take on St. Mary’s tonight in the opening round of the Class D2 Boys Basketball State Tournament.
Wynot enters the tournament as the #6 seed with a 16-11 overall record. St. Mary’s is the #3 seed at 25-2 on the season.
Tip-off from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, is scheduled for 7:45 PM.
A sign-up meeting will be held for the Yankton Gazelles High School Golf team today after school.
Sign-up is scheduled from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM in room 235 at Yankton High School for girls in grades 7th through 12th.
Yankton native Miles Krajewski sits atop the latest SH 6 BWF Parabadminton World rankings, earning the #1 spot in men’s singles.
Krajewski, a 2024 Paralympic silver medalist, takes over the top spot following his first-place finish at the world championships last month in Bahrain.
Along with being ranked 1st in men’s singles, Krajewski is ranked 3rd in men’s doubles alongside Vitor Tavares.
The South Dakota High School Girls Basketball Class AA, A, and B State Tournaments begin tomorrow.
The AA tournament will be held in Rapid City, the A tournament will be held in Watertown, and the B tournament will be held in Brookings.
