Mount Marty Softball wrapped up their Florida trip on Sunday with a pair of wins over Defiance College and Trinity Christian College.
The Lancer claimed game one 5-2 over Defiance. Kalli Boom was perfect at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
The Lancers won a defensive battle in game two over Trinity Christian, 2-1. Brooklyn Townsend’s two RBI single in the 6th inning was the difference in the win. Makayla Graunke pitched the complete game on the mound, allowing only 3 hits and recording 6 strikeouts.
The Lancers are back in South Dakota today, as they take on USD in Vermillion. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
The Yankton Bucks claimed the consolation championship last week at the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association Youth Boys’ Junior Varsity State Tournament.
The Bucks entered as the #6 seed, and fell in their opening-round matchup with Rushmore, before battling back with wins over Brookings II 4-1 and Brandon Valley 8-1.
Yankton goalies Ryan Turner and Garett Haas combined to save 57 of 59 shots between the consolation semifinals and finals.
The Wynot Blue Devils take on St. Mary’s tomorrow night in the opening round of the Class D2 Boys Basketball State Tournament.
Wynot enters the tournament as the #6 seed with a 16-11 overall record. St. Mary’s is the #3 seed at 25-2 on the season.
Tip-off from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, is scheduled for 7:45 PM on Wednesday.
A sign-up meeting will be held for the Yankton Gazelles High School Golf team tomorrow after school.
Sign-up is scheduled from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM in room 235 at Yankton High School for girls in grades 7th through 12th.
The SDAHA Boys Varsity Hockey State Tournament begins on Thursday in Sioux Falls, and the Yankton Bucks enter as the #3 seed, looking to improve on last season’s consolation championship.
The Bucks are 16-5-1 entering the postseason, with only one loss coming to teams below them in the standings.
Tucker Renken has led Yankton offensively, posting 53 points (5th in the state), with 26 goals (3rd in the state), and 27 assists (7th in the state).
Luke Moeller has been stellar in goal for Yankton, recording the most wins in net of any goalie, and his 5 shutouts rank 3rd most in the state. Moeller ranks 3rd in Save Percentage (0.932) and 4th in GAA (1.49) among goalies with more than 10 starts.
Yankton will face the #6-seeded Oahe Capitals on Thursday in round one at the Scheels Ice Plex in Sioux Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for noon, with pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 11:30 AM.
