The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles were swept by the Brandon Valley Lynx on Friday in their boys and girls basketball doubleheader.
The Gazelles would fall to the top-ranked Lynx in game one, 66-38. Eden Wolfgram led the Gazelles with 11 points and 3 assists
The Bucks would end the night with a 52-47 loss to the Lynx. Jackson Kudera posted a game-high 24 points in the loss.
The Bucks and Gazelles are back in action tomorrow night against Pierre. The Bucks will play in Pierre while the Gazelles will host the Governors in Yankton.
The Mount Marty Lancers dropped both games in their men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader on Saturday to Dordt.
The top-ranked Defenders won the women’s game 92-58. Leah Williams led MMU with 11 points, followed by 10 from Kaela Martinez.
The Lancer men would fall in the second game 80-74. Deegan Williams ended the night 5 for 6 from beyond the arc for a team-high 20 points for MMU.
The Lancers are back in action on Wednesday for a men’s and women’s doubleheader against Northwestern inside Cimpl Arena.
The Mount Marty Lancers set two new school records on Saturday at the Concordia Classic Track and Field Meet in Seward, Nebraska.
Mya Zohner eclipsed her own record in the women’s pole vault, clearing 12-4, and automatically qualifying for the NAIA National Meet. Josie Wahlstrom set a new benchmark in the women’s 600, breaking Kianna Hoff’s record with a time of 1:36.95.
Logan Ferrari would lead the Lancer men, taking home 1st in the 3,000 and 2nd in the mile.
Yankton Bucks Hockey picked up a pair of wins and a tie in their trilogy of games over the weekend.
The Bucks would cruise to victory Friday, 9-0 over Brandon Valley, and Saturday, 6-0 over Watertown, before playing to a 1-1 draw yesterday against Brookings.
Kylen O’Connor and Jack Pedersen helped lead the attack with 6 points each over the three games. Luke Moeller kept two shutouts in net, stopping 80 of 81 shots faced over the three games.
Yankton travels to Mitchell on Friday, February 6th, for their next game against the Mitchell Marlins.
Yankton Bucks Wrestling placed 3rd out of 19 teams on Saturday at the Les Tlustos Invitational in Brookings.
The Bucks scored 146 team points during the event. Yankton was led by runner-up finishes by Colton Archer (106), Edly Amaro (215), and Shayce Platt (165). Brooks DeLozier (120), Damian Janish (113), and Ethan Smith (126) each placed 4th, with Drace Gaskins (285) and Peyton Eustace (190) placing 8th.
Next up for the Bucks is their home invitational on Saturday, February 7th, at Yankton High School.
Yankton Gazelles Wrestling took home 4th out of 23 teams at the Les Tlustos Invitational on Saturday in Brookings.
Alexis Brenden claimed the 120-pound championship to lead Yankton. Jaclyn Kyte (135) and Winry Yaggie (145) each finished 2nd, with Chloe Caton (115) 3rd, Sofia Delgado (130) 5th, andPeyton Kyte (140) and Yutney Delgado (110) 7th.
The Gazelles will host a home invitational on Friday, February 6th, inside the Summit Activities Center.
Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics captured a 5th-place team finish this past weekend at the ESD Conference Championships, scoring 137.425 as a team.
Yankton’s Marissa Byrkeland and Burkley Olson placed 10th and 11th in the all-around competition to lead the Gazelles. Avery Portillo captured a top-10 individualdual event finish, placing 10th on floor.
The Gazelles make up their previously postponed dual with Estelline-Hendricks tonight at the Barn in Hendricks, Minnesota.
The South Dakota Coyotes picked up a win over South Dakota State on Saturday, defeating the Jackrabbits 73-54 in Summit League Women’s Basketball play.
Angelina Robles led the Coyotes in scoring with 25 points. Elise Turrubiates finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
SDSU’s Brooklyn Meyer was impressive despite the loss, posting 27 points and 8 rebounds.
The Coyotes will take on Denver for their next game in Denver, Colorado. The Jackrabbits will be in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday to face St Thomas.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball pushed North Dakota State to the brink on Saturday, falling 89-83 in overtime.
Jordan Crawford (33) and Uzziah Buntyn (25) carried the scoring load for USD after the recent announcement that leading scorer Isaac Bruns would miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
The Coyotes are in Kansas City, Missouri, for their next game on Wednesday against the Kansas City Roos.
South Dakota State Men’s Basketball got back into the win column on Saturday, defeating Oral Roberts 95-72.
Joe Sayler and Jaden Jackson led the SDSU offense, tying for the team high in scoring with 24 points each.
SDSU will take on St Thomas on Wednesday in Brookings for their next Summit League game.
