Yankton Gazelles Volleyball picked up their fifth win of the season last night, defeating the Pierre Governors 3-1.
Tyan Beste led the Gazelles in the win, posting 16 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Libero Jordyn Kudera recorded 24 digs in the win.
The Gazelles travel to Beresford on Monday for an interclass matchup with the Watchdogs.
Yankton Cross Country had their final regular-season race canceled yesterday, due to heavy rainfall in Huron.
Yankton will travel to Huron for the State Championships on October 25th at Broadland Creek National Golf Course.
Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, at yesterday’s ESD Championship meet in Brookings.
Yankton Dance edged out Pierre on a tiebreaker to take the #3 spot in dance, as the Gazelles posted 37 standings points, led by a 2nd place finish in Pom.
The Gazelles Cheer squad posted a score of 245 to take home 4th. Harrisburg claimed the cheer title with a score of 295.5
Next up for both teams is the State Championships next week in Watertown.
The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats picked up their 6th win of the season last night, defeating the Bloomfield Bees 49-14.
The win moves the Wildcats to 6-2 on the season, as they prepare for the start of the Class D2 playoffs next week. The Bees also finish the regular season at 6-2.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Basketball have both been picked 8th in this season’s GPAC Basketball preseason poll.
The Lancer men, who finished with a 10-17 record last season, received 36 poll points to finish ahead of Hastings (9th), Doane (10th), and Waldorf (11th). Northwestern took all but 1 first-place vote to earn the #1 spot, followed by Morningside in 2nd.
The Lancer women earned 51 poll points this season, placing ahead of Doane (9th), Midland (10th), Waldorf (11th), and the College of Saint Mary (12th). Dordt were picked as the preseason #1 with 10 of 12 first-place votes. Dakota Wesleyan and Hastings round out the top 3.
Both Lancer teams open their season with a doubleheader against Kansas Christian on October 23rd.

Yankton Bucks Football has their regular-season home finale tonight, as they host the Tea Area Titans at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Yankton is 5-2 on the year, following a hard-fought 14-7 win over Brookings last week. The Titans are also 5-2, as they look to bounce back from a 15-7 loss to the Watertown Arrows last week.
